Creo que una vez expliqué el porque del nombre Omnia Caelum a mi atelier, galerías y negocio de arte, pero os lo repitiere. Pues lo he sacado de la Metamorfosis del poeta romano Ovidio. La frase completa era:

Ante mare et terras et quod tegit omnia caelum unus erat toto naturae uultus in orbe…

y significa:

Antes del mar y las tierras y el cielo, que cubre todas las cosas, el aspecto de la Naturaleza en todo el orbe era uno…

En todo el orbe era uno. Me fascina ese concepto, esa realidad, esa cosmología, que para mi tiene mucho mas sentido que las supuestas explicaciones (teorías) científicas que después se las meten por las narices a los críos diciéndoles que son hechos.

Pues yo me adhiero, me suscribo y me afano a las maravillas, a las leyendas, a lo que le llaman fantasias, a las teorías conspiranoicas y a todo lo que esté en contra de la supuesta «lógica» o «raciocino». Basta ya!

Me sublevo! Me declaro anarquista (en ese sentido solamente, no os vayáis a equivocar conmigo) y Jazzista!

Mi trabajo artístico refleja a Ovidio y también al Jazz (la música clásica norteamericana) porque surge de una idea muy bien elaborada pero después de unas cuantas pinceladas se permite el lujo de improvisar, y atención, improvisar no es lo mismo que al azar, la improvisación esta basada en algo ya establecido, lo único es que te permite coger por diferentes direcciones hasta llegar donde quieras ir. No es intuición, es la búsqueda.

Ok, I think I once explained the meaning and the reason why I called my studios, my gallery and my art business Omnia Caelum, but I will repeat it here. I basically pulled it out of Ovid’s «Metamorphoses«. The complete phrase in the poem is:

Ante mare et terras et quod tegit omnia caelum unus erat toto naturae uultus in orbe…

And it means:

“Before the sea, the earth, and the sky that touches all
there was one countenance upon all of the world”

One… All was one… I love that concept. I admire that cosmology which to me has much more meaning and sense than the supposed scientific (theories) one that they push down the throat of children teaching them that they are facts.

Well, I attach myself to, subscribe to and marvel at other things like leyends, what «they» call fantasy, conspiracy theories and everything else that stands opposed to reason and logic. Enough!

I rebel! I declare myself an anarchist! (only reference these things, don’t confuse who I am) and a Jazzist!

My artwork reflects the poetry of Ovid and also Jazz (North America’s Classical Music) because it surges from an idea, a well thought idea and very much elaborated. However, after a few brushstrokes it has the right to improvise. But, pay close atention because improvisation is not the same thing as haphazard. It is based upon something well established, the only difference is that it can take different roads towards a conclusion. It is not intuitive. It is the search.

Segorbe, en la provincia de Castellón, Comunitat Valenciana, es un hermoso pueblo entre montañas y ríos donde se celebra, durante la segunda semana del mes de septiembre, la ENTRADA DE TOROS Y CABALLOS.

Pues nada, lo vimos, recorrimos el pueblo, que tiene su castillo, su cripta, su catedral y un salon de madera del ayuntamiento que mola, y claro, sus bares…

Y aquí os dejo el recuerdo, y además las vistas por si vosotros también quisierais visitar este pueblo y esta zona de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Segorbe is in the province of Castellón in the Comunitat Valenciana. It is a beautiful town in the mountains and rivers of the area. During the second week of September they hold their town festival, the ENTRADA DE TOROS Y CABALLOS (The entrance of the bulls and the horses).

Well, we saw it, we explored the town, which has its castle, its crypt, its cathedral and a beautiful all wood hall in the Mayor’s office, and of course, its bars (cafes + restaurants in the open air)…

And then here I leave you my memories and the views because perhaps you too might be inclined to visit this town and this very beautiful area of our Comunitat Valenciana.

Para hacer un cuadro…

Comienza con una idea que encaje con la filosofía que quieres transmitir. A veces esa etapa, donde estas pintando en la cabeza, dura días o semanas hasta que un buen día te acercas al lienzo. Luego viene la etapa donde tienes que resolver problemas como: el tamaño, el estilo, la gama de colores y la posición del conjunto de figuras de la composición en el lienzo. Luego empiezas a pintar, a observar, y a ver si todo encaja según lo has planeado…

How do you paint? It starts with an idea that merged with the philosophy you want to transmit. Sometimes that phase, where you paint inside your head, can last a few days or more. Then comes the day when you start facing the canvas. And then comes the problem-solving phase, like size, style, palette, and how to properly place and balance your composition. Then you paint, study and observe to see if everything fits according to what you have planned.

Esta gran artista flamenca de la cual no conocemos mucho, se piensa que nació entre el 1580/90 en Amberes y murió en algún momento después del 1620. Es…ahora…muy reconocida por sus autorretratos que escondía en los cuadros que le encargaban, especialmente en su bodegones. Solo se le reconocen 39 obras, firmadas o atribuidas. También fue una de las pocas que trabajo profesionalmente en Europa allá por los principios del S. XVII. Clara Peeters, en 2016, fue la primera mujer a la cual se le concedió en el Museo del Prado una exposición.​

Por estas iniquidades hacen falta museos para mujeres artistas en todas las ciudades y también que se le reconozca el trabajo a las mujeres artistas en las facultades de bellas artes de todas las universidades. Claro, lo ideal sería que también en los grandes museos del mundo hubieran mas cuadros de estas grandes mujeres artistas, pero una cosa no cambia la otra.

¿Fue Clara Peeters una feminista? Pues claro que si, yo digo que si lo fue.

Clara Peeters was a great Flemish artist, however we do not know much about her. We think she was born sometime between 1580 and 1590 in Antwerp in the Spanish Netherlands and that she died sometime after 1620. She now is recognised as a still life painter who hid her self-portraits in the paintings that she was commissioned to paint. We acknowledge only 39 paintings to her hand, some with her signature others with a symbol associated with her. She was one of a very small number of women who actively worked as a painter in the beginning of the XVII C. In 2016, Clara Peeters was the first woman to have her own exhibition at the Museo del Prado of Madrid.​

Because of inequalities like these, that keep great women artists away from museums, and other art institutions, like art schools, there is a pressing need for museums for women artists in every city. Of course, the ideal would be that they also be included, equally, in the great museums of the world, but one thing does not discourage the other.

Was Clara Peeters a feminist? Of course! I say she certainly was.

Norteamericana, nacida en Galesburg, Illinois en 1910 y murió en 2012 en Nueva York. Se le asocia siempre con los surrealistas y lo fue, pero su estilo vario mucho a través de su larga vida. Estudio solo tres semanas en la Chicago Academy of Fine Art en 1930 y lo demás lo aprendió sola. Fue una gran pintora que nunca ha recibido el reconocimiento que han recibido otros grandes surrealistas, como el que fue su compañero sentimental Max Ernst y Joan Miró.

Por esas injusticias deben haber museos para las mujeres artistas que han sido obviada, o echadas a un lado y solo dado un menor reconocimiento, en la historia del arte.

Bueno vamos a ver, ¿Hacen falta museos…en todos los países…para exponer las obras de mujeres artistas?

Venga, creo que si porque, por ejemplo, en el Musée du Louvre, inaugurado en 1793, (creo que eso lo coloca como el primer museo y gracias a que surgieron los museos, empezó a escribirse la historia del arte), hay solo una treintena de mujeres artistas representadas y sus obras no pasan de la media centena…

En el próximo museo, el Prado, inaugurado el 19 de noviembre de 1819, solo encontramos cinto mujeres artistas. Son: Sofonisba Anguissola, Clara Peeters, Angelica Kauffmann, Artemisia Gentileschi y Rosa Bonheur. Solo exponen once pinturas, ¡pero en el Prado hay más de 1.150 cuadros expuestos!

Pues, seguimos, en 1870 abre el Museo Metropolitano de Arte de Nueva York. Veremos que en el Met (como se le conoce), hay 4.665 artistas representados en la colección y 658 son mujeres.

En el Museo Guggenheim (privado), hay 75 cuadros y 16 de las obras son de mujeres artistas. En el Reina Sofía, el 14% de los cuadros son de mujeres artistas…

Así que podemos ver claramente que sí. Hacen falta museos para mujeres artistas, por supuesto. ¿Habrán? Pues sí, hay uno, uno solo en el mundo entero, y es el National Museum of Women in the Arts localizado en Washington, D.C., EEUU.

Abrió sus puertas en 1987 por Wallace y Wilhelmina Holladay y cuenta con mas de 5.500 obras de unas 1.000 artistas mujeres, que van del S. XVI al presente, incluyendo obras de Mary Cassat, Alma Woodsey Thomas, Elizabeth Louise Vigee-Le-Brun y Amy Sherald y claro, la única obra de Frida Kahlo que existe en Washington, D.C. Curiosamente el museo ocupa un antiguo templo masónico y el edificio está registrado en la lista nacional, de EEUU, de lugares históricos.

Ok let’s see, do we need a museum for women artists? Should there be one in every country to exhibit solely paintings by women?

Yes! Why? Because, for example, at the Musée du Louvre, which was inagurated in 1793, (and I think that makes it the first museum and thanks to the museums Art History was begun to be written), there are only about thirty some paintings by women artists, and no more than about fifty some paintings.

The next museum to open was the Museo del Prado, 19 NOV 1819. Here we only find five women artists represented. They are: Sofonisba Anguissola, Clara Peeters, Angelica Kauffmann, Artemisia Gentileschi y Rosa Bonheur. There are only 11 paintings, while the museum exhibits more than 1,150 paintings!

Continuing on, we find that in 1870 the Metropolitan Museum of Art opened in New York. And in the Met (as it is known) there are 4,665 artists, and 658 are women.

At the Guggenheim Museum (private), there are 75 paintings and 16 are women artists. At the Reina Sofía in Madrid, 14% of the paintings exhibited are by women artists…
