Born in North America, in Galesburg, Illinois (US) in 1910 and died in New York in 2012. She is associated with the surrealists, which she did paint and exhibit with but her work, throughout her long life, changed into many different directions. She studied for only three weeks at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in 1930, the rest of her education was self-taught. She was a great painter that has never received the same recognition as the male surrealists, including her romantic partner Max Ernst and Joan Miró.
Because of injustices like these, it is imperative that there be museums for women artists because there are many that have either been ignored or paid little attention throughout art history.

This short video I made for another occasion which has passed but I think it has enough of her work so that you can get a better idea as well as some facts. So if you would like to me to post more about this artist, please let me know in commentaries.
Gracias…
Cheers…
Well done, Francisco. I would like to learn more about Dorothy. I’d also like the tempo in this video slowed down just slightly because some of her pictures passed by too fast for me to really see them.
