#art, Bodolandia y/and JaZzArt

Jazz is the American classical music. It was invented in New Orleans at the beginning of the 20th century by black descendants of slaves or those who came from Haiti and other Caribbean islands. Jazz quickly distinguished itself from other genres by three very basic but fundamental elements. Firstly, it relied on improvisation, where the musician becomes a composer while playing, and it had a unique rhythm called «swing.» These three elements were necessary to make jazz. Over the years, the swing rhythm was replaced by other rhythms, but improvisation remained, giving rise to various types of jazz. Naturally, jazz found its way into almost every musical style, including flamenco, and even into dance. I have incorporated jazz into my art, following these three fundamental principles. I hope you like it…

#art, Bodo en Turquía – Bodo in Turkey…

(Derechos Reservados/All Rights Reserved)

In the fall of 2003, I was invited to exhibit at a gallery in Istanbul (PG ART). It caught me completely by surprise. The curator, who was visiting Miami, came to see me at Omnia Caelum Studios Miami and asked me to submit five paintings for the exhibition. I would be exhibiting alongside a Danish artist. I agreed, and it went very well. Although I wasn’t expecting it, three out of the five paintings were sold. I was amazed because I never imagined that Turks would like my style or the content of my work, but I hit the mark and the rest is history…

#poem, «September»

(«Flamenca Amarilla» original artwork by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

SEPTEMBER

They picked up the lounge chairs.
They closed up the bar.
They took down the names of the singer, the dancer,
and the gypsy, the one with the magic guitar.

The sand is now empty,
umbrellas are packed,
the dancers have left.
The sun?
Not as hot as it was back in August,
when Flamenco nights were hot and fluid,
with music flying over the dark, deep waters of the Mediterranean,
whose waters kissed shores full of life,
and her body seductively swaying under the yellow moonlight…

Yellow-orange her dress, jet black hair,
naked feet pounding sand without care,
while he sang of a lover’s delight,
she danced under yellow moonlight…

All summer we sang, we danced and we lived
neath the stars of the sky
in the humid sea breeze.
But now September’s arrived,
everything’s been picked up,
and it’s time now to fly,
towards winter,
with memories lingering…
Perhaps longing for summer again
and the things we’ll be missing?

Like the moon,
like the spirit of gypsy guitars
and the soft rhythmic dancing
of a beautiful woman…on a beach, on a bar…
of the sweat… hot and sticky…that drips as you dance,
as you dance Sevillanas, on the beach on a bar…

#art, Los colores en la cabeza de Bodo – The Colours in Bodo’s Head…

(Obras originales de Francisco Bravo Cabrera/Derechos Reservados – Original works by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

(Contactar «By Guloshka» representante, guloshka404@gmail.com).

Colours! They’ve always been on my mind. When I started my career last century, it was only natural for me to paint with many colours, and so I did, and still do. Colours themselves are art, and the reason why is very simple. They convey emotions, they make history, are full of spirit, and therefore life – the essential elements of art. On this post I bring you some of the paintings from other stages of my artistic development. Many of them are already in private collections in numerous countries around the world, but some others are still waiting for you. (Contact «By Guloshka» representative, guloshka404@gmail.com).
