  1. La dama del armiño
  2. La Belle Ferronnière
  3. Ginevra de Benci
  4. La Gioconda

Y, ¿A vosotros? ¿En que orden los pondríais?

Gracias…

These were the only three female portraits painted by Leonardo da Vinci. From the first to the last there are thirty years of development noted in the works. Of course we have to realise that these paintings have all been touched and retouched as they were badly damaged, so there is no real way to know what da Vinci really painted…

For me, I would place them in this order of preference:

  1. The Lady with an Ermine
  2. La Belle Ferroniere
  3. Ginevra de Benci
  4. La Gioconda

And you? How would you list these four paintings?

Cheers…

¿Juzgas?

Si, ¿Por qué no?

#art, El «Salvator Mundi» – «Salvator Mundi»

(Salvator Mundi, photo: Public Domain)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This painting, which bears no signature and which is attributed to Leonardo da Vinci was sold at auction in Sotheby’s in 2017 for $450,3 million. The warranty of the buyer, supposedly an Arab Sheik who keeps the painting in his luxury mega yacht, is about to expire. And we still do not know who painted it. The experts, conferring prior to the auction, supposedly certified and affirmed that it was a Leonardo, but now it seems like they thought it was an informal meeting, and thus an informal conclusion of attribution…

Personally I do not believe that this painting was painted by Leonardo, although it may resemble some of his other works. But it also looks like it could be the work of many others from his time. After all, Leonardo is now regarded…by some…as a genius, but during his day he was no such thing and he happened to live in an age when there were many other fully capable painters of having painted «Salvator Mundi» and much more.

But what can we do. The truth we will never know… What we do know is that the highest priced painting in the world…of those who have been sold…has its warranty up. Let us see what happens… In truth I care little about the hundreds of millions paid because I just cannot understand how anyone can pay that much money for a painting who no one really knows who painted it…

Los antisistema y sus estupideces – The Anti-establishment and their Stupidities…

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Wow, what a commitment to the «struggle»! Aren’t they risking their bloody lives?

Of course, that glue that they are using, isn’t it made, somehow, with a derivative of oil?

Good grief! What a risk it is to enter a museum with a can of soup and then pour it over a work of art protected with a glass!

Asinine behaviour, nothing more!

What does art have to do with the supposed struggle against oil or a struggle against anything else that these anti-establishment folk say they stand for?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Art is not part of the arsenal of things available for the struggle against the negative and harmful things that surround us…

Talking About Art…and not Adding Anything to the Conversation…

(«New York City I, 1941», abstract geometric painting by Piet Mondrian)

Adding nothing to the narrative or to the conversation about art is what they are doing when they bring up the «fact» that a painting by Piet Mondrian was hung, supposedly «upside down» in a German museum. And I say that this narrative/conversation means nothing because abstract art does not necessarily have to be hung «right side up» for it to be valid or for it to make sense. And in any event, to not risk damaging the painting, it will remain «upside down».

Abstract art removes itself from the metaphor of life, therefore it does not require the same rules as figurative art, which is making a realistic statement of life. Therefore, it makes no difference which way it is hung. Think of Jackson Pollock, he painted on the floor without caring, one way or another, where the top is and where the bottom is. Many times I have hung my abstract paintings in different ways just to bring out a different feel or emotion. Changing the perspective does not detract anything from the value of abstract art.

«New York City I 1941» was exhibited for the first time at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in Manhattan in 1945. Since 1980 it hangs in the art collection of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf. Susanne Meyer-Büser, curator for a new Mondrian exhibition, investigated and discovered the error. Her research led her to a photograph of Mondrian’s studio that was taken before his death and which was published in Town and Country magazine in June 1944. The photo shows the painting on the easel the right way. The painting is not signed and has no indication as to where the top is. Mondrian died without finishing this piece.

(Photo: TOWN & COUNTRY JUNE 1944)

I wonder, if this is all a way to generate propaganda for the exhibition.

I invite you to delve deeper into abstract art… This video features, among others, work by Piet Mondrian.
