Para decirte algo sobre lo que es el “Euro-Ku” te diré que lo “inventé” allá por febrero del año pasado (2022) porque soy fan del Haiku tradicional. Entonces pensé que para mí, siendo europeo, occidental, la tradición oriental no la comprendo del todo. Si, la admiro, pero jamás podría yo hacer un Haiku como lo haría un hombre oriental pues esa es su cultura y se me ocurrió que podía adaptar la forma…con mucho respeto…a la lógica, a la filosofía y al pensar occidental y de ahí el “Euro-Ku.” Se trata de componer un poema con tres frases, sin importar la cantidad de silabas, pero de acuerdo a la manera de expresarse que compartimos en el occidente, a nuestra lógica y unirlas a una foto inédita, hecha por el mismo poeta (autor), y ale, ahí tenéis el Euro-Ku.

Os prometo más acerca de este gran maestro del bandoneon…

I promise you more about this great master of the bandoneon

Esta fotógrafa estadounidense, nacida en Springfield, Ohio en 1898, hizo cientos de fotografías icónicas de la ciudad de Nueva York durante los años treinta. Esa época, entre dos grandes guerras, fue cuando Nueva York se hizo la gran metropolis que sigue siendo. Nacieron en esos años los rascacielos y ese je ne sais quoi que tiene la Gran Manzana. También fue en este espacio de tiempo cuando emigraron grandes artistas europeos a EEUU y la gran mayoría hicieron de Manhattan (o sea la ciudad de Nueva York) su estancia permanente.

Berenice Abbott, en 1921, se fue a vivir a París y Berlín y entre el 1923 y el 1926 fue asistente de Man Ray. En 1925 instaló su propio estudio e hizo su primera exposición en París en 1926. En 1927 conoció a Eugène Atget, el fotógrafo francés conocido por sus fotos de la ciudad de París. Atget fue una gran influencia para Abbott y eso la llevo a hacer algo parecido pero en la ciudad de Nueva York, obra que comenzo en 1929. Fue testigo y cronista de los grandes cambios y las grandes construcciones de esa ciudad.

This North American photographer, born in Springfield, Ohio in 1898, made hundreds of iconic photographs of the city of New York during the 1930’s. Those were the years between the two world wars and the time when New York began to change and grow and turn into the great metropolis that it still is. In that space of time the skyscrapers were born as well as that je ne sais that the city has. Have to mention as well that many of the great, upcoming and avant guarde artists from Europe were also emigrating to the Big Apple in those days and changing the world art scene.

Berenice Abbott relocated to Paris and Berlin in 1921. Between 1923 and 1926 she became the assistant to Man Ray. And in 1925 she opened her own photographic studio. She had her first exhibition in Paris in 1926. In 1927 she met Eugène Atget, the French photographer known for his iconic photographs of Paris. Atget was a great influence upon Abbott and that led her to attempt to do the same but in New York. She commenced her work there in 1929. She became witness and chronicler of the great changes and the great constructions that were occurring in that great city.

There is a lot more to this artist/photographer and I urge you all to continue the search…
