Sonny Rollins tiene 93 años y en mi humilde opinion es un crack, un autentico genio de la música clásica norteamericana, el Jazz… Comenzó a tocar profesionalmente al graduarse del instituto en 1948 y en 1949 hizo su primera grabación… Muy temprano en su vida y su carrera musical, ya tocaba con el pianista Bud Powell, el trompetista Fats Navarro y el legendario baterista/percusionista Roy Haynes… Estuvo preso por cometer un robo a mano armada y luego por posesión de heroína…  De 1951 a 1953 grabó con Miles Davis, con el Modern Jazz Quartet, Charlie Parker, y Thelonious Monk. En 1954 grabó sus piezas más famosas como «Oleo», «Airegin», y «Doxy» acompañado por un quinteto liderado por Miles Davis en el cual tocaba el piano Horace Silver. Este gran jazzista nació en Nueva York el 7 de septiembre de 1930. Y bueno, como no me gusta hablar mucho de los que hacen arte para los oídos, aquí os dejo una grabación fenomenal que espero que la disfrutéis…

In 1949 he made his first recording… Very early on in his life and musical career, he was playing with the likes of pianist Bud Powell, trumpeter Fats Navarro, and the legendary drummer/percussionist Roy Haynes… He was imprisoned for committing an armed robbery and later for possession of heroin… From 1951 to 1953, he recorded with Miles Davis, the Modern Jazz Quartet, Charlie Parker, and Thelonious Monk. In 1954, he recorded his most famous pieces like «Oleo», «Airegin», and «Doxy» accompanied by a quintet led by Miles Davis, with Horace Silver on piano. This great jazz musician was born in New York on September 7, 1930. And well, since I don’t like to talk much about those who make art for the ears, here is a fantastic recording that I hope you enjoy…

Aclararé que nunca fui fan de Nirvana ni de Cobain, ni de Courtney Love ni de su grupo Hole, aunque si me gustan algunas de sus canciones… Vale, pero ahora os presento al Kurt Cobain, no el músico, si no el pintor-artista. Qué, ¿No sabíais que el tío pintaba? Venga pues te lo voy a contar…

Aparentemente el músico también expresaba sus ideas sobre el lienzo o sobre el papel, con lápices o con tubos de pintura. Dícese que desde peque ya pintaba y que sus dibujos de Mickey Mouse, el Pato Duck y Tribilín (Goofy) eran fenomenales, al menos así pensarían en su casa. Bueno, aunque no me sorprende nada que revistas como Rolling Stone y otras hayan aclamado las obras de arte de Cobain, a mi no me convencen. A mi se me parecen a los dibujos de los chicos del instituto, especialmente de aquellos mas raritos y afanados a la música punk, metal o grunge, digamos los frikis que les gusta expresarse de esa manera.

Pero bueno, no estoy aquí para juzgar…solamente…si no para exponer y como hoy nos toca música, que mejor que un musico que pinta. Mi opinión es que si Cobain hubiera tenido más tiempo para desarrollar su arte y su música, quizá hubiera llegado a ser un gran maestro de ambas cosas. Pero eso no se sabrá nunca porque lamentablemente, como sabemos, Cobain se quito la vida el 5 de abril de 1994 a la edad de 27 años, uniéndose a esos otros famosos que murieron a esa misma edad. Cobain nació en el estado de Washington (EEUU) en 1967.

Para mi este pintor maldito fue un genio del expresionismo… Y para mi el expresionismo, o sea esa tendencia artística que surgió en Europa central a comienzos del S. XX, es mi forma preferida para expresar el arte que llevo dentro. El artista no pinta lo que ve en el mundo natural, si no lo que siente, lo que intuye, lo que se imagina y lo expresa de una forma bruta, fuerte, con colores agresivos, con trazos largos y sueltos, casi caricaturescos son los cuadros expresionistas y un autentico fenómeno… Lo he pintado, o sea, a mi estilo, el surreal-expresionismo, primero mas o menos a la edad que murió, 28 años, y también como me lo imagino de mayor…

People talk about «inspiration» when they think of the process of creating art. I never think of such a thing. Perspiration is more likely to provide insight and ideas for a work of art than some superstitious belief in muses or such other elements designed to, supposedly, inspire. So I live in a very ancient city, actually it was built in the days of the Roman Empire. Here I find «inspiration» in many things, but mostly the gothic buildings…

Here is just one angle of the Micalet, the bell tower of the Cathedral of Valencia… It is truly amazing and inspiring…

Although I am not a landscape painter, I do learn and find many elements in architecture and in the natural world. Everything comes from the natural world that surrounds us. Even my abstract art takes root there and there hides its references. There is no such thing as an abstract, everything proceeds from something. Earth, life, the Universe, the «everything,» is a product of creativity, it is creation, not evolution. In art there is no such thing as evolution. There is always creation, development and spirit…
