#art, The Importance of Pablo Picasso…

(«Picasso in Paris» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

Pablo Picasso is considered the art genius of the 20th Century and I fully agree. Of course he might not be your favourite artist or even one that you consider to be very good or even good. But what he did for art, painting in particular and to a lesser extent sculpture, was something that catapulted the art world and created new avenues for artists to travel with their curiosity, anxiety and creativity towards new and uncharted territories. He is the inventor of cubism (along with others) and also of collage. He revolutionised painting to the extent that even trained scholars of art consider him an abstract painter, although he never painted an abstract work in his entire long and very fruitful career. That tells you a lot about «experts.»

For years I only heard good things about the master from Málaga. Of course I tried to read every book about his life and his work, especially the one that Françoise Gilot wrote about her life with Picasso, and I knew about his reputation as a womaniser and also that he might have mistreated some of these women, especially Dora Maar. But I recently passed in front of my neighbourhood bookstore and I saw a new book about Picasso that I had not seen before and I immediately bought it and to my surprise and anger, it was all about how much of an abuser he was and that he committed «gender violence*» towards most of the women in his life.

Being as such rubbish I could not support, I thought about giving the book away but then a better thought occurred to me. Since so many of these same puritanical, leftist, «politically correct» folk like to ban books, I decided to trash the book so that no one would get infected with its virus of hatred for men that has become so popular in these elitist circles that unfortunately now exist all around the world.

I don’t know, but I can imagine that these people writing these books, and articles too, know nothing, or very little, about human psychology, sociology, history or art. They cannot understand that people from times gone past thought of things differently than some do nowadays. That is not to excuse real abuse or much less real «domestic violence**» but just to place it in its proper context.

Pablo Picasso is one of the most important artists in art history and his work is worth millions upon millions. I sincerely doubt that anyone would be willing to trash it or to take it down from museums all around the world. So these elitist, leftist «correctors» can continue to accuse anyone that does not conform to their «superior» lifestyle but they can leave art and artists, of the past (especially) or present, alone. Just because we don’t agree with you does not mean we are inferior in any way.

#art, Sombrero dorado – Gold Hat (algo nuevo/something new)

(A veces me siento como un gato junto al mar/Derechos Reservados – Sometimes I feel like a cat next to the seashore/All Rights Reserved)

The cat is not the real Francisco/Bodo but an actor portraying him… Here is the painting I just finished titled «The Golden Hat» ready for the exhibition «Atrévete» («Be Bold») which will open its doors on October 12, 2023, in my home town: (Sala d’Exposicions de Ciutat Vella, Carrer del Micalet, 1, València)…

#music, And the Memories…

(photo BBC)

God works in mysterious ways
Mysterious ways
Ah
Hey!
One man, one goal
Ha, one mission
One heart, one soul
Just one solution
One flash of light
Yeah, one god, one vision

(From «One Vision» written by Queen)

(1986)

Queen was always one of my favourite bands. They were phenomenal, theatrical, powerful, spiritual and very melodic. They had the best frontman in rock and one of the best guitarist, coupled with a fantastic bass player and a drummer who really kicked arse…

(1979)

#music, Queen and the Last Song… (Part Four)

(Freddy Mercury 1991/Photo Vintage Everybody)

And so ends an era…

(1991)

Although Brian May wrote this song, Queen did perform it with Freddy singing it. It wasn’t really about Freddy’s death, but Brian did sing it later in the memorial…

And then…

(1991)

«The Show Must Go On» … The last song on the last album from 1991… This song is about how Freddy Mercury continued to work on even after being sick with AIDS… You will always be the greatest voice of rock and your legacy of love, peace and friendship will let all know that you loved us all till the end…

¿La ley de la gravedad? Una teoría, una leyenda que no aguanta el peso de las cosas. Las cosas tienen masa y peso y por eso caen…

The law of gravity? A theory. A legend that does not have any weight, like things have. Things have mass and weight and that’s why they fall…

#music, Queen For a Thursday! (Part Three)

(Freddy Mercury/Photo WBUR)

For me there is no doubt, Freddy Mercury was the best frontman of rock… He was a prolific songwriter and musician and his tenor voice set him apart from the hoards of singers out there fronting great bands, mediocre ones and bad ones… But there was no one like Freddy. He loved life, secrecy, his intimacy and privacy… He said too much love can kill you…

Here is one of his final songs, «The Miracle.» Released in 1989 in the album of the same name. It was Queen’s last hit of the 1980’s and the song was written by the four lads, although Freddy and John Deacon were the main contributors to the song. «The one thing we’ve been waiting for is peace on earth and an end to war…»

(Released in 1989)

#music, Musical Thursday: «I’m just a poor boy…» (Part Two)

(Queen/Photo Pinterest)

Released in 1975 in the album A Night at the Opera and written by Freddy Mercury, «Bohemian Rhapsody» is considered by millions of fans to be Queen’s top song. I agree, although as a fan of the band, I like most of their songs just as much. This song remains the UK’s third best selling single of all time… «Bohemian Rhapsody» was a song that was in Freddy’s mind since the 1960’s. He had written it in parts, mostly as three songs and he kept developing it until perfection.
