This beautiful city, surrounded by olive groves and beautiful mountains is a UNESCO Patrimony of Humanity city, but because of its low population, roughly 16.000 souls, it is often thought of as a town. I spent some time there, as did the poet Antonio Machado, and like him, I fell in love with the green fields and the beautiful valley that surrounds the town.

This is such a vivid and heartfelt reflection on a place that clearly holds both beauty and memory.
The way you describe the city—nestled among olive groves and mountains, yet often mistaken for a small town—gives it an intimate, almost poetic character. There’s a quiet charm in that contrast between its UNESCO heritage significance and its modest population, which makes it feel even more special and personal.

It is one town among many in that Sierra Nevada Mountains, but this one, and it’s sister town Úbeda, have been pristinely preserved and they also kept the importance they had more than 300 years ago. I truly loved the visit. Thank you Sir for your kind words and for your ever so welcomed visit.
