Music to Brighten a Very Hot Sunday!

This is one of my favourite songs of all time, the very well known Rodgers and Hammerstein «My Favorite Things» (sorry for the misspelling but that was how the composer wrote it), from the 1959 Broadway show. It was first sung by Mary Martin playing Maria. Then, came the 1965 movie The Sound of Music, and Julie Andrews made the song hers.

But when I first heard Coltrane’s version, well, I could not believe it! He played a soprano saxophone, which had been given to him by Miles Davis back in 1960, and he blew the song off the charts (musical charts that is, where the chord changes are written). He changed the G chord progression of the original to E minor and E major changes over these he and McCoy Tyner (piano) did their solos. Incredible! He changed the happy Sound of Music song into an Indian meditative chant!

John Coltrane recorded the song in 1960 with his new ensemble consisting of Elvin Jones on drums, McCoy Tyner on piano and Steve Davis on bass. He released the song in the album by the same name in 1961. It immediately became a concert favourite and a jazz standard. He played it at the 1963 Newport Festival.

This is an incredible tune. I love it both ways, by Julie Andrews and by Coltrane. What do you think?

And I could not leave you without the original…

I have opened a virtual gallery at this company and the image above as well as many others are now available, through this company. This fine art print is available framed, on wood, or on canvas. It is from an original painting that is now in the walls of a private European collector.

Abstract Art (in progress)

(Image property of FBC, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia. All Rights Reserved)

This is an image of my latest painting titled «Sunrise Over Your Battlefield». As you can see this is a genuine abstract painting. No figures here, no similarities to anything in the natural world, as it should be, according to the rules of art.

It also has a reference, internal naturally. The reference is a philosophical approach to the way we sense, feel or realise things when we are faced with adversity, danger, suffering or anything else stressful. The sun does not shine the same on the beach, when you are sipping your Margaritas under the warm, comforting rays, as it does when you are being showered with bullets, bombs and rockets…

Abstract art is very difficult, but if you create your story, in your mind, then perhaps attempt to illustrate them, and after you do, you can extract all the elements that would make your painting figurative, then you will have an abstract beginning to what would be a finished product. Abstract art faces all the problems and challenges of figurative art. It is not something random or intuitive. Art is contrived, planned, researched and prepared.

I will post the finished version soon…

¿Os provoca una paella? – Anyone Fancy a Paella?

(Tapas Magazine)

This is our favourite dish at dinner time on Sundays! Well it could be other days as well. The rice comes with different ingredients but we like rabbit (Although I also like seafood). But what kind of rice can you cook in this paella (the paella is the pan)?

Maybe one with chicken? Don’t say one with owl…

Y ¿En esta? ¿Vegana?

Dear Diary, (page 45)

(Image property of FBC, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia. All Rights Reserved)

The world, or planet Earth rotates at a great speed, according to experts: At the equator (1666 Km/h) and in places like Madrid, found at 40º latitude (1275 Km/h). I’ve no idea at what speed it turns in our «little land», our terreta, el País Valencià, but I imagine it’s a little slower than Madrid, I reckon…

Then, if we are spinning around and God knows what else, out in space, why do they say that Scandinavia is north and Africa south? If our Earth space ship is hurling around out there in space, who can say where north or south is? Good grief! We really do create fantasies! Imagine, if one lies on one’s back in Spain and looks up, does one in Australia have to lie on their stomach? Won’t they fall off the globe?

Well, it takes some effort to imagine such things as a rotating Earth in outer space. We live in a ball, a rock, remember 3rd Rock from the Sun? We are travelling at immense velocities and if it is a velocity then it means it is going somewhere, and no one yet has been flung off the surface, (yeah gravity, don’t tell me). Curiously a pilot friend, from my army days, told me that pilots do not take into account the curvature of the Earth when making flight plans. Interesting…

Tomes have been written filled with explanations about the atmosphere, that it stays with us even when we’re flying in the biggest of jets, eight miles high and higher. Too many theories, too much «science» to play with my head and spoil my beer time. I really do not want to pay them any mind as they are not worth my attention. When you explain a truth you just need one sentence, but when you need a million words, I’ve no time, don’t bother me

Come on dude! You’re treating me like an idiot! Don’t lie to me!

And don’t accuse me of being a «flat-earther» either. Just gimme some truth!

A BIG HUG to you all, including the rationalists, the occultists, the surrealists, the flat-earthers, the globalists, the rightwingers, the commies, the gays and lesbians and trans, the scientists, the madmen, the cripples, the crazies, the sub-normals, well EVERYONE!

Cheers…

Venga, cuesta imaginarse semejante cosa, digo yo.
