Brilliant are the bright black notes that fill the pentagram with the thrill of the allegretto and the fluid melody of the adagio, the andante, the largo,
and suspenseful is the beat of the snare, the cymbal or the tympany, and the double beats of the conga drum, the bongos or the tambourine,
but blessed is the silence that awakes me each morning when I rise to greet the sea…

NOTA BENE
Although I think you probably know what an Euro-Ku is, in case you don’t, I will tell you…
I invented the Euro-Ku in February 2022 to be able to fulfil my desires to write a Haiku. But when I realised what a Haiku is, I understood that being a Westerner, I had not the culture or the history of the great Japanese poets who specialise in Haiku. So, I decided to honour the style by manipulating it and the result was what I called the Euro-Ku, being that I, as a European, is writing it. I know that my good friend and fellow poet, Joni Caggiano, has written in the style, but being an American, her poems are Ameri-Ku. Both are the same as both are expressions of Westerners on something invented by Easterners…
The Euro-Ku (and Ameri-Ku as well) is composed of three verses, stanzas, paragraphs, however you want to classify them. But the idea has to be clearly, and logically, transferred from one verse to the next without floating off into space. Keep the poem concise, like a conversation. And there is no limits as to how many syllables you can use. The verses can be as long or as short as you need to make them to get your message across. The only other requirement is that there be an un-edited illustration of your creation as well, or for which you have the rights of publication.
So, you do these simple things and you have written an Euro- or Ameri-Ku…

This is another woman artist that I knew nothing about… But, here she is and I am glad to have discovered Barbara Chase Riboud. She was born in the United States and is a poet, an illustrator. visual artist, sculptor and novelist. She was born in Philadelphia in 1939. She graduated from Temple University in 1956 from the school of fine arts. She won a scholarship to the American Academy in Rome and there she created her first bronze statues.
Barbara, in 1879 wrote a novel, Sally Hemings (about the relationship of Thomas Jefferson with one of his black slaves) that won the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize in Fiction. This led her to success internationally.
Here are some of her works…

There is much to the work of this phenomenal Black American Sculptor from the United States and I would encourage you to look further.

GRACIAS

If every star was a stair step,
and every cloud above a lift,
why would you be scared to fall if to reach the sky you wouldn’t need to fly…

Ever heard of Eric Dolphy? Well I am here to tell you a bit about this phenomenal jazz musician who played saxophone and flute. He toured and played extensively here in Europe with the likes of Charles Mingus, for example.
Dolphy had his first big break in 1958 when he started playing with Chico Hamilton’s Quintet. Chico had been drummer for Lena Horne, Gerry Mulligan and Count Basie and later became a band leader.
Eric Dolphy was born in Los Angeles in 1928. Besides being a sideman, he was also a composer and later band leader. He started private music lessons on the clarinet and saxophone at the age of six. He served in the US Armed Forces and in 1952 entered the Navy School of Music.
His death created some confusion. He died in West Berlin at the age of 36, apparently from a diabetic coma which led to insulin shock. Either that or the confusion of the doctors attending to him who thought that him being a jazz musician he was probably on drugs and left him there for the drugs to leave his system, and he instead died. Whichever is the real reason, it was a tragic loss.
But, as it is engraved in his tombstone, «He lives in his music» and I quite agree. Here, take a listen and tell me if you don’t think he is a genius…

If art is the search then I must search all all art, experiment, find out and see if I can make art in any way possible. And yes, it is possible…

feliz,
porque ya no te espero.
