I have long admired Vija and her meticulous paintings and drawings of natural phenomena such as the ocean, spider webs, night skies, and deserts. It’s also fascinating to learn how other artists find inspiration, in her case, seeing dramatic images of outer space on media after Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. What a fascinating introduction to Vija Celmins! Her ability to transform seemingly ordinary subjects—ocean surfaces, spider webs, starry skies, and landscapes—into extraordinarily detailed works is truly remarkable. 🎨✨
