#art, Art is Objective; Taste is Subjective – Art Philosophy by Bodo

(Bodo/Actor portrayal)

Art is objective, do not doubt it. Art possesses inherent qualities: form, structure, composition, skill, harmony and originality. These qualities can be judged independently of personal taste. I do not argue with taste. Individual likes and dislikes are subjective,. But the value of art is rooted in these objective elements that give it enduring power

A fascinating and thought-provoking perspective on the philosophy of art! 🎨👏 I particularly appreciate the distinction between artistic value and personal taste.

Taste is undeniably subjective—we may love one painting and feel nothing for another. Yet qualities such as composition, technique, balance, originality, form, and craftsmanship can be examined and discussed beyond our personal preferences. That distinction gives us a richer way to appreciate art.
