I dance on the grave.
I know you loved to dance.
A tiny crab two-steps
through Sargasso,
feeding on dead crabs
that danced there before.
Mackerels and barracudas
just beneath the surface,
and people like me
just above it.
(Valencia, 21 JUN 2025, Francisco Bravo Cabrera)
What a hauntingly beautiful poem. In just a few lines, it carries an extraordinary depth of meaning—touching on mortality, memory, survival, and the fragile dance of existence.
I was especially struck by the opening: «I dance on the grave. I know you loved to dance.» It transforms grief into an act of remembrance, suggesting that continuing to live fully can itself become a tribute to those who came before us
