It was very difficult to just list 10, but to me they are the top. There are many more, so many more in all the styles that, well, help me out here, how would you create a top 10, and who would you put?
· Chuck Berry – The Genesis of the Rock & Roll Narrative
· Brian Wilson – The Avant-Garde Harmonic Studio Visionary
· Bob Dylan – The Folk-Rock Literary Standard
· Joni Mitchell – The Master of High-Art Alternate Composition
· Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter – The Mythic Americana Poets
· Gregg Allman & Dickey Betts – The Southern Blues-Jazz Architects
· Charlie Daniels – The Outlaw Fiddle Storyteller
· Curtis Mayfield – The Soulful, Political Street-Level Poet
· Smokey Robinson – The Master of Flawless Pop Elegance
· Sly Stone – The Psychedelic Funk Boundary-Breaker
CHEERS
Interesting choices, Francisco.

Lists of favourites are always so difficult to compile. I have trouble reducing them down to reasonable numbers – well done.

Tomorrow comes the British top 10 (also a difficult one). So Sheree, do you agree, or would you change any one?
Me gustaLe gusta a 1 persona
Why would I change your top 10?

Just asking to know other ideas.

Like it.

Thank you! Any other songwriter you would insert in there in place of someone?

Ill give it some more thought my mind is frazzled due to ongoing circumstances. I certainly agree with these choices .I will be back lol

Thanks Ernie! Anyone you would put in there in place of one already there?

I think I’d have to put B.B. King or Dr. John on my list.

Yes! Great songwriters both. I struggled with putting them in, but I edited and re-edited my list several times and they did not make the cut. Thanks Ernie!

👍I think this would be a very tough one to do.

For sure Ernie! Wait until tomorrow for the British top 10 (from my point of view).

Franki Valli, the great falsetto and songwriter, wrote many great Rock and Roll hits during the 70’s for one of my favorite groups – The Four Seasons.

Excellent list, Francisco! Actually, Joni Mitchell is Canadian, but she certainly does belong on any list of great songwriters.

Canada is part of America Mitch. Remember America is a continent.
Me gustaLe gusta a 1 persona
Actually, the continent is North America, but only the United States is referred to as America. Candians don’t call themselves Americans.

As Europeans we have always been taught America, from Canada to the Patagonia is one continent of the 5. We refer to United States as “United States”. Canadians may not call themselves American but they are in the American continent. Thank Mitch. There are many things that US people do not understand, like the concept of Westerners. They believe they are but do not think others from the Americas are. In truth all Americans, from Canada to Argentina are Westerners. All the best.

Actually, according to the continent model used in most western countries, there are seven continents; and North America and South America are considered separate continents. And, while Canadians and Mexicans are taught that they live on the continent of North America, they call themselves Canadians and Mexicans, not Americans. We in the U.S.A. (short for the United States of America) call it the United States or America (both are considered correct terms). But we don’t call ourselve United Stateians, we call ourselves Americans. And I’ve never heard anyone from the United States argue that only they are Westerners. We’re all quite aware that we live in the Western Hemisphere.

Thank you Mitch. But for Europeans there are only 5 continents and all on the Western Hemisphere are Americans. In other languages (including Spanish) we do call people from the US United Statesters. All the best.
