This beautiful city, surrounded by olive groves and beautiful mountains is a UNESCO Patrimony of Humanity city, but because of its low population, roughly 16.000 souls, it is often thought of as a town. I spent some time there, as did the poet Antonio Machado, and like him, I fell in love with the green fields and the beautiful valley that surrounds the town.

What a beautiful tribute to a place that clearly captures the heart. Your description brings the landscape to life—the rolling olive groves, the surrounding mountains, and the tranquil valley all paint a picture of timeless beauty. It is easy to understand why Antonio Machado found inspiration there, and why you fell in love with it as well.

Yes, it’s cool mountain breeze, the sheep grazing nearby and the olive trees, hundreds of years old some, provided just the right tranquillity. Thank you Sir for the kind words.

There’s something special about those quiet UNESCO towns that stayed small — 16,000 souls and olive groves all around sounds like the kind of place you slow right down in. The Antonio Machado connection makes it even more tempting. We’ve found our kids always remember the little overlooked towns far more than the famous big stops, so Baeza just went on the list. Lovely shot of the Ayuntamiento.

You will love the feel and the intimacy of the town while surrounded by castles, walls and towers from the Middle Ages. Thank you!

Yes, both of those cities are quite charming, and the people of those areas are very open minded, open hearted and joyful. So glad you enjoyed it. I love travelling through Andalucía. Have you visited other parts of Spain?

We spent a month in Andalucia, so visited many places there, but haven’t spent much time in the rest. No yet, anyway.
