Bona vesprada! Good Afternoon! (ESP/Eng)

Today we see the shameless attitude of certain politicians who, with complete disrespect, describe the deaths of two Civil Guards in the line of duty as merely a “workplace accident.” Calling it that is deeply insulting and morally disgraceful.

The Guardia Civil is a state security force whose mission is to enforce the law and protect society from criminals. These officers were not victims of an ordinary accident — they were murdered while carrying out their duty to serve and defend

    1. The two agents were killed in the line of duty and serving the state. Then a socialist party nominee for president of Andalucía says it was a worksite accident!

      1. That seems a bit insensitive. It *was* a workplace accident, but how many workplaces are we expected to put our lives on the line?
If you follow that logic through, the government itself then becomes liable (as the employer) for not providing a safe environment in which to work.

      2. The government is liable that is why they wanted to distance themselves from the fact that this was not an accident it was killed in the line of duty. And the government does not provide adequate equipment to combat the marco-terrorists coming to our shores from Africa.

      3. So by saying what he said, he’s trying to trivialise it.
It doesn’t bode well, does it, when we start to see deaths as trivial. Seems like stepping back a thousand years. As we evolve, we should be regarding life as *more* valuable.

      4. I agree totally with you, we should be regarding life as more valuable, but when you have a government corrupted with useless and unqualified ministers, appointed for loyalty to the party and not because of competence, anything can happen, and what actually happens demonstrates their lack of shame. The person who said this was a vice-president and Minister of Internal Revenue and who is now running for president of the Autonomous Community of Andalucia! Thank God she does not have a chance in hell of winning!

      5. You would think a politician would have good antennae, to know when to keep their mouths shut. Even if that’s what they thought, the only result of saying it would be to offend people.

      6. True but the ultra left of the Socialist Party also talks that way to their followers and their followers respond with support. It is a national disgrace.

      7. I consider myself to be on the left, but would never even think such a thing. You have to be even handed. Every person, whatever their oppupation, has a right to life.
To say «X was a policeman, they took on that risk when they took the job» just trivialises the situation.

      8. I too have always considered myself on the left, but the new left has become too moralistic, too puritanical, too preachy and dogmatic. What happened to free speech, free love, freedom in general? The left now is full of rules and condemnations. And they lean more towards the authoritarianism of the communists or fascists.

      9. It’s funny, but there is a load of shit going on here at the moment, I don’t know how much you hear, but Starmer is being forced out. This, supposedly, a man of the left. One of his top ministers quit yesterday, one of the things he cited was «authoritarianism». And it is absolutely true.

      10. I believe it. The left now acts more like the Nazis than the right! What happened to all the freedoms we won back in the 60’s and 70’s?

I did not hear about that over here. Tragic! The entire world seems to have lost any semblance of sound or reliable leadership. I keep hoping that is just happening in the U.S. Also, I just heard one brief report about the Russian ship that was sunk off the coast of Spain with possibly two nuclear reactors on board. There was a question of who sank it.

    1. I did not hear anything about the ship… There seems to be a confluence of lies, distortions and corruption which exemplifies many of the people and parties ruling major countries today. Liberals and the left talk and act like the right and the right has gone off the cliff…

Indeed! We’re living in a time when we can’t believe what we see or what we hear. I feel sorry for future generations. The corruption and AI genies are out of the bottle.

I have an update, Francis. Turns out the Russian ship sank on Dec. 23, 2024, but was the in news this week because it was carrying nuclear reactor parts and there is speculation it was headed to North Korea instead of back to Russia. Sorry for the confusion I caused. I thought it had just happened. Have a great late spring weekend!

      4. Yes, they talked about that ship yesterday and assured us that its cargo was not dangerous to our southern Mediterranean shores… thanks Janet.
