Pero no vayáis a pensar que todo vino póstumo, no, en vida vendió muchos cuadros ya que su hermano era galerista. Se le categoriza como un puntillista, un neo-impresionista o post impresionista.

He was born in The Netherlands, (I don’t know why but before we used to call it Holland, incredible! How things change, must be progress) and he became famous, very famous, after his death. But don’t think that it all came posthumously, no. In life he sold many paintings, especially because his brother was an art dealer. He is categorised as a Neo and/or Post Impressionist and Pointillist.

Amsterdam is in the Holland region. I know it extends north of there, up beyond Alkmaar, not sure how far south/east it extends. But I suspect much of the Dutch exploration/colonialism happened from up there. Worth a visit, if you get the opportunity.

I’ve loved van Gogh for many years — his story perhaps as much as his art.

Although I’m not a real student of art, I’ve always thought van Gogh’s story was more interesting than his paintings. I think his self-portraits are progressively gaunt and telling of his mental and physical condition.
