#art, Andy Warhol…

(Image Galeries Bartoux)

Here is one that is a mystery to me… well, he made his fortune and then decided to become famous, and he did…

In any event, although I do not like anything about his work, I do understand that he is important in the history of art, as is Yoko Ono… So, here is some valuable information on the man that loved money so much he converted a dollar bill into a work of art…

Thank you, Francesco, for writing about Andy Warhol, who was a talentless creature you wouldn’t wish to meet.

I think Andy Warhol captures certain crises of contemporary art—the tension between originality and repetition, between the ‘aura’ and mass-produced imagery. That’s why I chose Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe series for the cover of my Persian translation of The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction. I’d love for you to see it!

Haha no, the *book cover* (last sentence!)—not Andy’s art! 😅

      2. Yes, I followed your link and saw the image, but I could not understand it was the book cover. However it looks very nice 😊.

Of all the good things I remember about the 1960s I’m afraid that Andy Warhol’s ‘art’ wasn’t one of them.

We like A. Warhol. He made people think about what art is and understand that art is what is presented as art. We like his serial art. It liberates art from the myth of uniqueness. For us, Andy Warhol was a clever, influential artist. Last but not least, we like that he made money with his art, that he was successful.

    1. I do not debate your taste for Warhol, we each like what we like, but… it is not clear that he made people think about anything as his art works were not unique and not even totally his as he took them from either photos in the newspapers or otherwise famous photos… Warhol as a clever and influential artist, you must realise that his art went as far as he lived and financed it. No influencer he was… And money, the money he made was from his design work before he opened The Factory in NYC… He was a product of the hype created during the heyday of Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Of course the rich and powerful art merchants turned his serigraphy into high priced art. Thank you Fab Four and all the best…

Interestingly, Warhol can still stir up emotions today, as you can see here.
We think it’s a remarkable achievement that he was so successful as an artist, especially when so many unsuccessful artists complain.
Nevertheless, we like his art. And we lived in the Village for quite a while.
        All the best
