And I am talking about the Neapolitan artist from the XVIIth Century, Aniella di Beltrano, also known as Diana de Rosa… And very little is known about her. But one thing is known and it is that many of her paintings were attributed to other artists, especially to her main teacher and mentor, Massimo Stanzione… Aniella (Diana) was born in 1613 and died in 1649 from a stabbing committed by her husband in a fit of jealousy.
However, this (see below) rediscovered painting sold at Sotheby’s for a whopping 128.000€ ($134.836)!

This sale set a new auction record for paintings by early Italian professional women painters.

The featured image above is my rendering of what Aniella may have looked like as I could not find any portraits or self-portraits of the artist. So I imagined her as a young woman of the 17th Century in my style, surreal-expressionism.
