#art, The Work of Josef Albers and Anni Albers

Debo confesar que no conocía mucho de la obra de Josef Albers (1988-1976). Fue artista y profesor, como también lo fue su esposa Anni Albers (1899-1994), ambos alemanes, que pasaron muchos años en Estados Unidos. Anni fue diseñadora textil, tejedora, pintora y diseñadora, además de ser profesora de la Bauhaus. Josef creo las bases de muchos de los programas de educación artística más adelantados e influyentes del Siglo XX… Josef, aunque al comienzo de su entrenamiento artístico fue influido por Cezanne y Matisse, cuando conoció la obra de Piet Mondrian (1913), se decantó por la pintura abstracta… Fue profesor de la Bauhaus donde conoció a Anni… En 1933, debido a la presión Nazi, emigraron a Estados Unidos. Se incorporó a la facultad de Black Mountain College (Carolina del Norte), una de sus alumnas mas destacada fue la pintora, arquitecta y diseñadora cubana Clara Porset. La pareja viajó a Cuba y quedaron muy impresionados por la arquitectura… Este es Josef Albers, diseñador, fotógrafo, tipógrafo y poeta, al cual se le recuerda mayormente como pintor abstracto… La obra de Anni aún se preserva en muchos de los patrones, colores y diseños que todavia se utilizan en la industria textil, creando lo que ella denominó «tejidos pictóricos».

I must confess that I didn’t know much about the work of Josef Albers (1888-1976). He was an artist and teacher, as was his wife Anni Albers (1899-1994), both Germans who spent many years in the United States. Anni was a textile designer, weaver, painter, and designer, as well as a teacher at the Bauhaus. Josef laid the foundations for many of the most advanced and influential art education programs of the 20th century… Although at the beginning of his artistic training he was influenced by Cézanne and Matisse, when he encountered the work of Piet Mondrian (1913), he gravitated towards abstract painting… He was a professor at the Bauhaus where he met Anni… In 1933, due to Nazi pressure, they emigrated to the United States. He joined the faculty of Black Mountain College (North Carolina), one of his most outstanding students was the Cuban painter, architect, and designer Clara Porset. The couple traveled to Cuba and were greatly impressed by the architecture… This is Josef Albers, designer, photographer, typographer, and poet, who is mostly remembered as an abstract painter… Anni’s work is still preserved in many of the patterns, colors, and designs that are still used in the textile industry, creating what she called «pictorial textiles.»
