Bueno dicen que la escultura es hiperrealista, pero yo diría surrealista… Se llama «Dinosaurio» y esta en el High Line Manhattan a la altura de la Calle 30 y la 10a Avenida…

Well, they are calling it a hyper-realistic sculpture, I call it surreal. It is called «Dinosaur» and it is on the High Line, at the intersection of 30th Street and 10th Ave. Manhattan

La ha esculpido Iván Argote, un escultor colombiano. Está hecha de aluminio y pintada a mano. (Créditos a High Line Park)

It was created by Colombian sculptor Iván Argote, and made totally of aluminium and painted by hand. (Credits High Line Park)

¿Imaginaos las cagadas de tal bicho? Pero, ¿Quién las va a esculpir?

Can you imagine the pigeon shit? Who’s going to sculpt that?
GRACIAS – CHEERS

M’agrada que algú les immortalitzi i no les massacri, per canviar.

Contrary to many people I like pigeons and we have some wood pigeons that come into the garden every day and we’re good friends, so it won’t surprise you to learn that I really like this sculpture – but they do make a mess I’ll grant you..

We’ve a lot here too and many, many white ones as well. I don’t like them, but I recognise they are quite intelligent…

There are lots of different kinds of pigeons and some people refer to them as flying rats, but that’s because there are so many of them making a nuisance of themselves in towns everywhere. Kids used to love feeding them (including me) in places like Trafalgar Square but they put a stop to that. On the plus side, before technology, I remember the half time and full time results taken by pigeon from the football ground to the media centres, and they also played an important role during WWII. When I went to Bletchley Park (if you don’t know it, look it up) there was a list of pigeons who were honoured with the equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

You are right, I know how intelligent and how expert navigators pigeons are. They are not the same as other birds. In Valencia there are many multi-coloured ones, especially brown/white, black/white, all white and all black ones. In the city they are flying rats because they can spread disease and they poop all over. Dirty birds which I strongly dislike. I fought with a family of pigeons in my flat in Turkey where they created a nest outside on of my windows and refused to leave. I had to have the niche on the exterior wall (where they nested) sealed to get rid of them… I love the brown doves who actually live on trees, but the pigeons, they don’t even live on trees as they should. No, they are not for me no matter how clever they are. Thank Malc, have a great Saturday evening and all the best.

That’s a huge statue! I love wood pigeons as we had a wonderful bird couple who arrived early at our doorstep for some organic seeds and nuts, but just like like the residents of many other major cities, I have a love-hate relationship with the feral pigeons in Sligo as they leave their crap all over the place and try to steal the food. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

I don’t know anything of wood pigeons but the ones in the city I hate them!

I would not want to stand below that bird, just in case. I just learned that paloma means both dove and pigeon (I was only aware of it meaning dove.)

Yes, it means the same in Castilian Spanish… And you are right, I would not want to be below or anywhere near, LOL!

I always hear people in cities complain about the pigeons, so I’m surprised by this!

To me they are nothing more than a nuisance, flying rats that spread filth and disease. I’ve always tried to keep them away from my windows and balconies. But some people, especially in the country, love them…
