#art, Artistas internacionales: Octavio Ocampo, México – International Artists/Mexico

(Revista Cierto)

His work is metamorphic, and yes, I know you are going to say, what the hell is that? And I am going to tell you and show you, relax…

(Cultura Colectiva)

¿Te has dado cuenta?

+++++

Look closely at the above painting and tell me what you see. Pay attention. You’re looking at a metamorphic painting. The figures form… with the magical abilities of the painter… something else, another figure, or figures, completely changing the composition. Have you noticed?

Octavio Ocampo, Mexican, born in Guanajuato in 1943, is a painter and sculptor. I confess that I had no idea of his existence and had never seen his work, but once it was shown to me, I found it very interesting and it reminded me of the work of the great Italian master Arcimboldo.

Ocampo studied painting at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving La Esmeralda Bellas Artes and from 1972 to 1974 at the San Francisco Art Institute, in San Francisco, California. In addition, he designed the scenery for over 120 Mexican and US films, as well as for many theatre productions. He has exhibited in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. And it’s easy to see why; he is an artist with great vision, good taste, and a lot, but a lot of magic…

Now I ask you, were you familiar with him? Well, if not, here it is…

    1. Yes, you are right, Aiva, the more one looks the more one finds in his paintings. Amazing. Thank you so much and it is good to know you are finally getting a sunny day, hope there are many more. By the way, my friends spent 30 days in Ireland last month and I gave them all the tips and information you have published along the way. When I see them in a couple of months I will ask them how it went. All the best!

    I’ve never heard of him before but he also reminds me of Arcimboldo. Perhaps he was influenced by him, but whatever, this is an artist with a lot of talent as far as I’m concerned and thank you Francesc for introducing him to me

    1. I came across his work in an article, quite by chance, but when I saw the paintings I thought this is a very good artist, then I began to dig into him and found out he had done movie and theatre sets, the guy is phenomenal. And yes, his reference must be Arcimboldo. (On 02/10/24 I’ve scheduled an article about Arcimboldo).
