THE CONDITIONAL COMFORT OF THE SNOOZE BUTTON
Thoughts pretend
actions real,
seek some comfort,
life’s a deal.
Reality withers in your dreams,
dreams becoming what they seem,
and you sleep knowing the alarm bell will wake you so you won’t miss your bus to destiny…
Routine runs,
daylight fades,
how can I be what I say,
how can I ignore the warnings,
changes here are so alarming,
strange things come and slap my face,
and what if I sleep till noon tonight the alarm bell will wake me in due time to catch my bus to destiny…
Beer and pretzels
warm recliner,
coffee black in roadside diners,
my mind is thoroughly confused,
my brain’s too fried with all the news,
I don’t have to think no more,
‘cause I’ve a snooze as a command when the alarm clock warns me I should stand…

I had a religion teacher in Catholic school that always used the metaphor «we’re all on a bus heading to our destiny…» Thank you Dawn.
