Universities have gone from being centres of higher education to indoctrination centres. Who needs them? There are so many famous artists (in all disciplines) who never attended uni and became extremely successful and rich.
Think of Lennon and McCartney (and George and Ringo), Elvis, Cat Stevens, Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Keith Haring, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, and on and on and on…
You go to art school at uni and the professors try to influence you and “guide” you to what they like, what they consider art, which is mostly “performance/conceptual art,” understand it as “theatrical” that belongs in Theatre School and not Art School…
You go to Theatre School and they only guide you, again, towards the style/form that the profesor likes! Good grief!
What ever happened to teaching and letting the student learn on his own and choose?
Besides, a good reason to avoid most unis is that they are mostly staffed with communists…
I can’t argue with one word you’ve said Francesc. I was never bright enough to to go to university myself and always had a great respect for those who managed to get there. Those days are long gone, but we must also remember that there are still some terrific people who go to university and give so much of their knowledge back to make a better world for us all. Mind you, there are also those who, because the system has enabled them to go to university, think they know more about the world than everyone else. I often think of the quote attributed to Mark Twain that said «When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.»

Phenomenal quote Malc. Always I have admired Mark Twain. Besides the Beatles reading Mark Twain helped me learn to speak and write English, my mix of British 🇬🇧 and United States 🇺🇸. All the best!

Do I correctly understand then, translating Spanish «Communist» to English is «Democrat?»

Absolutely not! In the US I was a «democratic» voter always, since my first time for Mondale. Not communists, but that there are many in the Congress from the «Democratic Party», yes, I agree and I don’t like them. Communists are far more perverse, dangerous and pernicious. I know them well…
