#opinion, Domestic Violence vs Gender Violence… The Debate of the Magical Rulers

(Original Digital Art by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

«There is no such thing as ‘gender violence’ as genders, being those male and female, are identical in their display of violence or non-violence. Violence perpetrated upon a spouse or other family member is and has always been denominated as ‘domestic violence’ and nothing else.»

(Bodo Vespaciano)

In police circles, in criminal law and in society the term has always been DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and it has always been defined as violence perpetrated by someone known to the victim, regardless of his/her relationship to the victim. Brother on brother, Mother on children, spouse on spouse, even friends and neighbours would fall into the definition of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Domestic violence is what the name describes. I spent thirty years dealing with this during my time in the Miami-Dade Police Department.

But now these anti-male ultra-feminists, as well as the politicians capitalising on it, are intent on demasculinising boys and proposing instead the agenda of the new and modern feminist, as well as their new speech. This agenda has nothing to do with real feminism. Gender violence is a discriminating, man-hating term. With this they imply that «something» in the male gender makes them violent towards women! Incredible! And what is worse, in some countries, not just here in the European Union, they have actually made laws using the term gender violence!

The reality is that all humans (male and female, and as far as I know there are only two genders) are prone to violence. That is why now in so many countries men and women go to war as combatant soldiers. When I served in the US Army women served alongside but they were classified as non-combatants. So they have improved their status. There is no validity, at least not in Biology, to this idea that the male gender is prone to violence towards the female gender. Many more mothers murder their children than do fathers.

So get over it! Enough with this stupid idea of political correctness! Things should be correct and peace should reign supreme among men (and men means women too) and violence should end, now! The only one in charge is God, no doubt about it and He made us all equal.

You are correct to point out the fallacy in this new term. And I like the painting. It’s quite different from your usual style.

    1. Thank you Janet. Yes, I don’t necessarily like to stick to a style, per se as a style is equivalent to repetition, so I search and usually find something different… All the best to you and I hope there was not much disruption in your part of the world due to the storms… All good here.

  3. Well that depends on your community. It is an interesting view however you have to understand that for some people…for example a few communities in Africa I know the cultures define that it is within a man’s right to beat the wife to teach them a lesson. Then there are issues like Female Genital Mutilation… so for some people calling it gender based violence is not man hating…it is stating facts to crimes that are being perpetuated against women

    1. Thank you very much for your reply and for your participation in this debate, which is important. I agree with your point of view, but I still don’t agree with classifying negative behaviours of one gender towards another as something particular or exclusive behaviour. Crimes can be committed against women or against men perpetrated by either males or females. Whatever you might classify them as they remain crimes. All the best.

I agree. Domestic violence has no gender, but when there is a collective of victims speaking as one and identify as mostly women, then the term shifts to gender-based violence. domestic violence is just a term that puts all abusers and victims in a box, but not until we delve deeper into the matter. In saying that, as a pacific islander, there are a number of male abusers who misuse biblical text to gain power and control over their partners. There are also a number of pacific island women who are reported to police for assaulting their children. There are also feminists with different perspectives (liberalists, radicalists, socialists etc) who have their own take on what they are fighting for, however, it is definitely not hating on men. I’m a woman who works with our pacific island male perpetrators of domestic violence. I learned in this job that men suppress their issues and this is a learned behaviour from their upbringing and the expectation from society that they men do not have emotions when they clearly do. Thank you for sharing your truth. Great conversation.
