#art, Otro pintor que no me gusta – Another Painter I do Not Like…

(Fernando Botero/Foto/Photo BIOGRAPHY)

I am truly amazed to see how some artists, in such a grand manner, become a part of art history. Just like I mentioned about Joan Miró, I am not speaking about the person because I do not know him. I am only speaking about his work, his paintings and his sculptures… Well, I don’t like those paintings and I don’t understand why they have become so famous. Let’s see if someone can explain it to me. Here, let’s take a look at some…

I agree with you on this one Francesc. By the way, have you ever heard of Beryl Cook? If not, look her up. She painted in a similar fashion to Botero, but she captured life ( mainly at the Barbican in Plymouth where she lived) brilliantly. Similar, but very different if you get my drift.

I’ve never seen these before, but I can surely say that I am not a fan of his oversized or stuffed depictions of animals, people and other aspects of the natural world. It can easily be placed in a ‘bad art’ genre which on the one hand, does no good given that even vernacular paintings somehow have achieved the status of a genre, a tiny but devoted corner of the art world.

    1. I really don’t find anything special about his paintings and I totally flip when I realise how well placed his work is in the art world. In Miami I remember two very large sculptures of his which fascinated many people, and their fascination fascinated me… Thank you so much Aiva and all the best.
