#art, Mis naranjas valencianas – My Valencian Oranges…

(Derechos Reservados/All Rights Reserved)

Oranges are the symbol of our Valencia and the most obvious things you will see if you walk through our streets in autumn and winter… Naturally then, when I was commissioned to do a painting about the city I chose oranges. Here it is…

I was certainly surprised to see oranges hanging from the trees there in December.

    1. All the way through February all our trees are filled with ripe oranges. This morning as I was walking through the neighbourhood one almost fell on my head! Actually at the end of their season (March, I think), City Hall shakes all the trees, gathers all the oranges (they are sour oranges) and they are sold to England where you guys make marmalade with them. Did you know? Ever eat orange marmalade? If you did, it was made from Valencian oranges…

How interesting. I have marmalade on my toast regularly. I love it.

      2. Well, maybe some of it was made from our oranges… Enjoy the marmalade. We usually put tomato on our toast and maybe a slice of ham (Iberian ham)…
