#art, The Importance of Pablo Picasso…

(«Picasso in Paris» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

Pablo Picasso is considered the art genius of the 20th Century and I fully agree. Of course he might not be your favourite artist or even one that you consider to be very good or even good. But what he did for art, painting in particular and to a lesser extent sculpture, was something that catapulted the art world and created new avenues for artists to travel with their curiosity, anxiety and creativity towards new and uncharted territories. He is the inventor of cubism (along with others) and also of collage. He revolutionised painting to the extent that even trained scholars of art consider him an abstract painter, although he never painted an abstract work in his entire long and very fruitful career. That tells you a lot about «experts.»

For years I only heard good things about the master from Málaga. Of course I tried to read every book about his life and his work, especially the one that Françoise Gilot wrote about her life with Picasso, and I knew about his reputation as a womaniser and also that he might have mistreated some of these women, especially Dora Maar. But I recently passed in front of my neighbourhood bookstore and I saw a new book about Picasso that I had not seen before and I immediately bought it and to my surprise and anger, it was all about how much of an abuser he was and that he committed «gender violence*» towards most of the women in his life.

Being as such rubbish I could not support, I thought about giving the book away but then a better thought occurred to me. Since so many of these same puritanical, leftist, «politically correct» folk like to ban books, I decided to trash the book so that no one would get infected with its virus of hatred for men that has become so popular in these elitist circles that unfortunately now exist all around the world.

I don’t know, but I can imagine that these people writing these books, and articles too, know nothing, or very little, about human psychology, sociology, history or art. They cannot understand that people from times gone past thought of things differently than some do nowadays. That is not to excuse real abuse or much less real «domestic violence**» but just to place it in its proper context.

Pablo Picasso is one of the most important artists in art history and his work is worth millions upon millions. I sincerely doubt that anyone would be willing to trash it or to take it down from museums all around the world. So these elitist, leftist «correctors» can continue to accuse anyone that does not conform to their «superior» lifestyle but they can leave art and artists, of the past (especially) or present, alone. Just because we don’t agree with you does not mean we are inferior in any way.

In my opinion, about 80% of «art» of any forms is em, eh, mierda. «Experts» who fail to recognize this I classify with the 80% of artists. I don’t care for a lot of Senor Pablo’s work. What he was in his personal life does not affect how I feel about his art one way or another. Save ego I separate «artists» work from their lives. Strip any person of their contrivances and public appearance and you stand a pretty good chance of seeing something that displeases you, is ugly, or even evil. If you’re lucky, mostly the opposite. If I were a Libbie socialist I’d try to be less violently judgemental of people whose views on a particular issue did not match my own. Especially when I noticed that prevented me from calmly listening to their lies, which I’d remind myself are their truths.

    1. Waxing philosophical my friend but you’ve laid out many truths. I am in total agreement. Socialists/Communists and liberals are not entirely the same animal but they come close to it. They are elitista and bent upon governing us with their supposed “progressive” agenda that leads to chaos so that they can then impose their resolution. Take good care Espie and all the best!

I may not entirely agree with you about Picasso, but I certainly do about that book you disposed of. Just my opinion of course.

This type of books are on the current shelves, publishing companies consider they are the topics of the current world, it tells me how poor the collective taste is.
