#art, Francisco (Bodo) in Turkey and Greece…

(On the shores of the Aegean Sea/actor portrayal/Bodo Vespaciano/All Rights Reserved)

As I might have mentioned my first professional gallery show was in Istanbul, Turkey, a city I had wondered about but had never visited. That was back in 2003 at a gallery called PG Art in an upscale section of that city that straddles Europe and Asia… I did not know how my art would be received but, surprisingly, it was received quite well. I exhibited alongside another foreign artist (I think he was Danish but I really don’t remember) and three out of the five paintings the gallery had purchased were sold on opening night… From that point on I started visiting Turkey every summer. Not precisely Istanbul, although I arrived and left from there, but to the Aegean coast in the area of the city of Izmir. This is a beautiful coastline with small towns, great seafood, cold beer and sufficient sunshine to tan you to perfection all summer long…

Here are some of the artworks I have exhibited in Turkey through the years, all of which are in private collections in Turkey and in other countries…

Is that you or your photo double? In a different blog, I believe you covered this artist. Just saw this in the New York Times.
Fernando Botero, Artist of Whimsical Rotundity, Is Dead at 91

His voluptuous figures, in both paintings and sculpture, portrayed the high and mighty as well as everyday people through a magical-realist prism.

    1. It’s not the real Bodo/Francisco it is the actor that portrays me in photos. I had not seen the news today and did not know Botero died. I never met him personally, perhaps he was a bang on guy but I certainly did not like his artwork… Thank you Pat! All the best. Heading out to the gallery opening of an artist friend. Hope they have good wine…

Me too. I didn’t care for his art, but thought you had covered him since I recognized the overly large physical features.. Enjoy your wine. I plan to partake later in the day.
