    I can go two ways here true to the words given. Another instance where “translation” [or multiple translations] where the translator does not function as a “native” in both source and target languages, does not account for differences in given languages’ rules for referents [antecedents], and gender, and metaphoric flexibility. Chinese is rich in metaphor and symbolic animation of inanimate objects; here we wonder the pedigree [that is the sequence of] translation(s) to get us to what we read.
