#art, A Few Questions…

(Art Digital original «The Artist and the Muse*» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

I have some questions for all who wish to reply…

  1. Does art mix with politics?
  2. Should artists get involved with politics?
  3. Can art, (not that which is made for political propaganda) influence others politically or socially?
  4. If you thought that artists should not get involved with politics, can you tell me who should?
  5. If you thought that art does not mix with politics, can you tell me what does mix with politics and what mixes with art?

I look forward to your opinions, and please, always remember that the only thing we proffer is opinions, there are very few facts out there.

Cheers…

* This painting depicts the artist (I thought about doing a portrait of Francisco Goya) in a pensive mood, seemingly floating on the blue waters of a «creative» sea, while the «muse» looks from the side, taking on a rather sinister appearance…

  1. I believe that art has always been a significant component of religion, and politics and religion are inextricably linked….

    1. Could not agree more with you. Art, politics and religion are integral parts of our community and of our social makeup and it has been like this since the beginning. Thank you!

Artists have always been contoversial, whether it’s in their work or in their views. Some people like the maverick side of their nature, others less so. We’re all different, and if people don’t like what an artist does or says, political or not, they can always follow another artist if that’s how they feel.

    1. Absolutely! That’s what freedom is all about, the right to choose which flautist you follow. Nowadays everyone wants to tell us what is right and what is unacceptable. This new puritanical viewpoint and attitude is eroding away or freedom to choose. Political correctness is a folly and a destructive force. Not everything one does in art, for example, which is highly censured these days, has to be Instagram friendly. Bloody hell! Thanks Malc. As always I greatly value your opinion and appreciate your participation and replies. Have a fab Sunday and all the best!

Yes art reflects the times we live in. If they are ugly then we must reveal the truth. If it makes people think, than we have achieved a level of success. I painted a picture of the yellow jackets in France, hands reaching out for a loaf of bread, women working in a factory, to mention only a few. I always look for the beauty in things but the tryanny of governments, slavery and hunger are hard to hide or ignor.

    1. So true Leslie, and I agree, one must be an accurate chronicler of the times that is what gives spirituality to one’s art. Thank you. It is so good to hear from you. Take good care and all the best.

  4. An artist creates from the soul, and he/she will create what he/she feels, thinks, sees, hears, experiences, and imagines. If politics is part of that, so be it. Not everyone is politically-inclined.

    1. No, not everyone is. Some artists, Shakespeare comes to mind, do it only for the money…

If art is an expression of the artist, politics would have been a living part within the artist’s mind, be very limited or huge amount. Therefore, art can not escape from the trace of politics.
