La línea negra es la base, el espíritu, la sensualidad, la ternura, la luz y la voz de una pintura, y de un dibujo. Recordemos lo que dijo Matisse…un gran dibujante…que el dibujo no era mas que una pintura con menos recursos.
Desde que hice mi primer boceto me di cuenta del poder de la línea negra. Ella me guiaba, me introducía en el dibujo, me dejaba descubrir misterios, resolver problemas y me anunciaba…de forma mágica…cuando ya no tenia que volver a poner el lápiz sobre la cartulina o el pincel sobre el lienzo…
The black line is the spirit, the sensuality, the tenderness, the light and the voice of a painting or a drawing. Remember what Matisse…who was a great illustrator…said, that a drawing is a painting with less resources.
From the day I did my first sketch I realised the power of the black line. She guide me, introduced me to the drawing, allowed me to discover its mysteries, solve its problems and announced to me…magically…when I needed no loger to put pencil to paper or brush to canvas.

I absolutely agree with the power of the black line in artwork. It’s amazing how such a simple element can convey so much emotion and depth. I also appreciate the quote from Matisse about drawing being a painting with fewer resources. It really speaks to the importance of strong foundational skills in art.
However, I do have a question about the use of color in relation to the black line. Do you think that the addition of color can enhance or detract from the power of the line? Is there a certain color palette that you feel complements the black line particularly well? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
