Siempre me ha fascinado la fotografía. A veces pienso que la cámara es un instrumento mágico que logra captar la realidad, pero no la realidad que percibimos con los ojos, sino la realidad secreta, la que pasa desapercibida y muy, pero muy rápido. Algo así como la que existe en ese micro-segundo en un pestañar… Diane Arbus creo que se ha convertido en una de mis favoritos fotógrafos por la manera en que logró captar esos momentos efímeros y elusivos del ser humano. Es una mujer artista que hay que conocer.

I have always been fascinated with photography. I’ve come to look at the camera as a magical instrument capable of capturing a different reality, than that one we perceive it with our eyes. The unseen/unnoticed reality like the micro-gesture that exists within the briefest of moments, like in a wink of an eye… Diane Arbus, I think she has become one of my favourite photographers. She captures that ephemeral and elusive part of a human being. She is a woman artist that must be known and recognised.

What an amazing photographer indeed. Thank you so much for spotlighting this young woman. I couldn’t help but notice her own almost ethereal beauty. I can not photograph people. I have tried, it is not my thing, it would take years of study. It was a very interesting point that she liked to get to know her subjects, I found that fascinating as many who take photographs of people are more random. I like this about her and I think it makes a statement about the artist. I found all her work that you showed to be stunning and for different reasons. I love the two women on the beach with the interesting sort of matching swim suits and the expressions on their faces! The children captured my heart however, it was more like you were looking right into their soul. I do find it sad that her depression lead her to suicide at such an early age. Your music was just stunning as well for this piece. It truly adds a lot to your videos and this music was particularly mesmerizing, so a perfect fit for your subject. Thank you Francis, for sharing your vast knowledge of the arts. As a woman myself, of course, I particularly love that you are showcasing women that have not received the proper recognition that is well deserved. Blessings my friend and thank you again.

Joni, thank you so much! I am humbled by your kind words and I greatly appreciate your time and your visits. I agree with you on your assessment of Arbus. I think she was one of the best photographers I have seen, especially photographing people. It is a very specific art form indeed. Part of my work is bringing forth women artists that have…so unjustly…been misplaced in Art History and I urge all artists to do so because this trend is so unfair and it has to end. I have a young cousin who is now preparing to enter…or to apply…to art school. She is a very good artist, a hard worker, and I would like that she be received and accepted for her talent and for her work, and not be ignored just because she is a female. You have probably always been a head of your time, not only in your own amazing art, but in sensing talent in others that are dismissed. This is a very generous thing you are doing for these women.
