“Hanukkah Sameach!”
Hanukkah is a remembrance of the time the second Temple was rebuilt and re-dedicated in Yerushalayim back in the 2nd C. before Christ. Today is the second day. The festival lasts eight nights and days. Observance is done by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, in other words, the Menorah (Hanukkiah). The candle on the upper, or lower branch, the Shammash, is used to light all the others. Each night you light one more.
A very Happy Hanukkah to all Jews and to all who love spirituality, festivities and respect for traditions! May the Light shine for us, in us and around us and may it be useful to us all.
Lovely write-up, Francisco. I learned something.
