I thought it was honourable and as well a duty to serve in the armed forces, and I did, although in the armed forces of another nation, a friendly nation to mine where I was a resident and a citizen for many years…
Now I see that the armed forces are quite different. They have contractors for many things including combat, and we never had that. They have and allow gang members. We never did. They send you for tour after tour in a combat zone. We did not do that…
But still I believe it is a worthwhile endeavour and an honorable life that of a soldier, a sailor, an airman, marine or Coast Guardsman for men and women.
Thank you for your service! 💖 It is a truly honorable scarifice…I didn’t realize how much has changed.

Thank you for your service, Francisco. Wish more people were interested but with repeated deployments, I can see why it may not be as attractive as it used to be. They probably think the enemy is another part of the collective us rather than a foreign country.

That is right Pat, I fully agree and you are very welcome.

Keep striving for the right to speak your mind and stand by your principles.

If we didn’t have those rights we would be living under absolute tyranny…

Huge respect to you my friend. Prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice when you don’t have to touches my heart.
I see today that Russia has been calling on reserves ( does that mean conscripts as well?) to fight the battle in Ukraine and it seems that many don’t want to. We have to be careful not to back Putin into a corner which will see the world suffer the biggest sacrifice of all. We’re at a dangerous crossroads Francesc and we need people of calibre to handle the situation – but I don’t see any.

First of all thank you my friend for your kind words…
Secondly, you are so right. Pushing and pushing can only get Putin cornered and then anything is possible. This situation calls for intelligent and capable diplomacy on the one hand and a steady hand on the trigger as well but totally balanced, too much on one side or the other and the situation loses homeostasis and who knows what Putin is capable of doing, and we don’t want to find out. A clear signal that there is imminent danger is the fact that all his previous supporters, i.e. China, India, and Turkey, are all advising him to end the war… Now, who will handle this situation in the ideal manner? I don’t know my friend because like you, I do not see anyone capable…

I’m not going to continue this topic on your Dear Diary page, but we desperately need a firm hand on the tiller at the moment, that’s for sure

Thank you for your service. I know many young people who went into the military to learn good job skills – nursing, medical doctor, paramedic, technology, etc. – and were willing to serve their country in order to get those skills.
