Those of you who already know me know that I am a fan, a huge fan of The Beatles. And I’ll tell you that their songs never get old, they never tire me and they always fascinate me in many ways. This song «Think for Yourself» has always been among my favourites.

It was written by George Harrison and was released in the album Rubber Soul from 1965, and a hell of an album that was! Rubber Soul put The Beatles in a different plane of existence as they passed from being great song craftsmen to artists. They started the aesthetic that would govern rock music from then on. An aesthetic that led musicians to become true and genuine artists in the studio.

«Think for Yourself» marked several different firsts in popular music. It was the first song that truly placed George Harrison at the same level as Lennon and McCartney. It was the first song where the bass was played conventionally and also with a «fuzz-box» that Paul McCartney used to create the lead of the song. It also dealt with a serious topic, could be romance, could be politics? It was close to the songs of Bob Dylan, however, musically it used minor and mayor keys simultaneously. Any way you look at it, this is a great song that now, as well as in 1965, it sounds fresh and new.

Incredible these four lads from Liverpool…

It seems as though Rubber Soul was one of your favourite albums, but as you know, my favourite albums were before that – but I loved them all

People should re-examine that song and apply it to their lives today. Most people follow the herd logic of whatever group they identify with rather than asking if some of the group’s policies or behavior is acceptable. Beatles have proven to be timeless in their music and message.

    1. Timeless is the word Pat and you are right. This song should be played over and over into the ears of the youth and the old! Good point! Cheers.

Em “All things must pass” a notável If not for you e também I’d haveyou anytime, po exemplo, presentes assim como George esteve na célebre My Back Pages junto com Neil Young, o bird Roger McGuinn, Eric Clapton, o saudoso Tom Petty.
