AND THEN THERE’S WATER

Is it sad
to go looking through the ashes? The fires of passion once were crystal clear and pure with dancing flames that consumed us but strengthened us. Heat that paced the rhythm of our hearts; annihilated the oxygen in the air. It left behind just dust…

What could we ever hope to find?

I never kept my word.
Bad, late and never I repaid you. And I never wrote you a love song, never will…

Which god denied us happiness?
Was it the one who stole our innocence and plundered our wonder?
Was it because we climbed his Tree and satisfied our hunger with its tiny fruits?
We just wanted to taste them, discover their flavour, bite through their skin and let their juices moisten the silken robes that we slept in…

And then there’s water…
Water puts out fires. And the years? They whiten the sunburn of a summer’s love…

It’s me that now, with sweat-stained fingers, that winds the clock.

It’s not our fault.

We’re broken and every day more and more pieces of us fall carelessly to the dust.

Tears are not enough.
Nowadays they’re greatly overvalued.
They’re not worth what they were worth before,
yet, some still proclaim they are.

It’s now just you.
Sometimes just me.
No trace of us.

We aren’t innocent, but we aren’t guilty.
What destroyed us was an act of God…

Here there is talent and a sense of what art is. The artworks have something that distinguishes them as good, and although Anthony Hopkins is a famous actor, he can be seen dedicating himself to painting and doing so by acquiring the necessary knowledge to respect the art of painting and create authentic works. «…ho avuto una visita gradita…»

Es un artista alemán (ilustrador), músico y productor. Su asociación con John, Paul, George y Ringo empezó a principios de los años 60. Incluso vivió en el mismo piso de Londres que George y Ringo. Voorman diseñó la portada de uno de mis álbumes favoritos de los Beatles, Revolver, en 1966. Ganó un premio Grammy por esto. También tocó con John, George y Ringo después de la separación de los Beatles. De hecho, fue miembro de la Plastic Ono Band de John. Más tarde, en la década de 1990, diseñó la portada de los álbumes de The Beatles Anthology.

He is a German artist (illustrator), musician and producer. His association with John, Paul, George and Ringo started in the early 1960’s. He even lived in the same London flat with George and Ringo. Voorman designed the cover for one of my favourite Beatles albums, Revolver in 1966. He won a Grammy Award for this. He also played with John, George and Ringo after the Beatles split up. Actually he was a member of John’s Plastic Ono Band. Later on, in the 1990’s he designed the artwork for The Beatles Anthology albums.

Is there a controversial, dark song by The Beatles? I don’t think so…

But they say that «Run For Your Life» is such a song. But why? Well it’s obvious, isn’t it? Not to me. Well, John Lennon does sing about killing his girlfriend if he catches her with another man…

So now what? Are «they» going to ban the song like they’ve banned so many books, videos, movies et cetera? They bloody well better not! I like the song! And besides, how many man-hating songs are out there that female singers from pop, to rock to country constantly sing? And besides John didn’t really mean it. Is it going to influence your young lads? Good grief! Teach your children well and listen to the song, enjoy it and get over it!

¿Existe alguna canción polémica y oscura de The Beatles? No creo que así sea…

Pero dicen que «Run For Your Life» es una canción así. ¿Pero por qué? Bueno, es obvio, ¿no? No para mí. Bueno, John Lennon canta sobre matar a su novia si la encuentra con otro hombre…

¿Y ahora qué? ¿»Ellos» van a prohibir la canción como han prohibido tantos libros, videos, películas, etcétera? ¡Mejor que no lo hagan! ¡Me gusta la canción! Y además, ¿cuántas canciones de odio hacia los hombres hay por ahí que las cantantes femeninas de pop, rock y country siempre entonan? Y si me dices que va a influir sobre el comportamiento de tus chavales, tía, ensénales bien y no te quejes tanto que los Beatles no estaban ahí para ser modelos para tus críos. Además, John no lo dijo en serio. Escucha la canción, disfrútala y supéralo.

Que pasa, ¿No creéis que los pingüinos vienen en colores? Bueno, quizá antes no, pero ahora sí y no solo los que pinto yo, sino los de pluma y hueso…

What’s up, don’t you think penguins come in colors? Well, maybe not before, but now they do, and not just the ones I paint, but the ones with feathers and bones too…

Y no vayáis a pensar que es un albino o algo así, no lo es, es un autentico pingüino pero dorado, el «golden penguin.» Por eso entonces, digo yo, que mis pingüinos pueden andar por ahí por los icebergs de la Antártida.

And don’t think it’s an albino or anything like that, it’s a genuine, authentic penguin without any genetic defect and it is not a mutation, but it is golden, the «golden penguin.» That’s why I say that my penguins can too roam the icebergs of Antarctica.
