Venga, concluimos este jueves musical con el que lo comenzó todo en la familia Marsalis, Ellis, el paterfamilias que nació en Nueva Orleans en 1934. Su padre Ellis Marsalis Sr. fue un comerciante y un activista por los derechos civiles de los negros de EEUU. Ellis se graduó de Dillard University (universidad privada principalmente para los negros de la region) en 1955 donde estudio piano y música clásica. En la década de 1950 y 1960 tocó con grandes jazzistas como Ed Blackwell, Cannonball Adderley, Nat Adderley, y Al Hirt. Branford Marsalis, saxophonist, and the eldest son of the great jazz pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis, and brother to Wynton, Jason, and Delfeayo, all renowned jazz musicians with international acclaim and numerous awards, was born in 1960 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, a small town of fewer than 10,000 inhabitants near Lafayette, Louisiana. He is the leader of his quartet, the Branford Marsalis Quartet. In 1985, he joined Sting to record the singer’s debut solo album, «The Dream of the Blue Turtles,» and was part of Sting’s group until 1999. From 1990 to 1994, he also played with the iconic band, The Grateful Dead, and served as the musical director for The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. In 2001, he received a Grammy for his album «Contemporary Jazz,» and in 2006, he was honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music, among many other awards and recognitions. This talented son of New Orleans is one of my favorite saxophonists and one of the greatest. The fact that he has collaborated with rock legends is truly amazing.

En estos momentos es el director artístico de la orquesta Jazz at Lincoln Center, ha ganado ya nueve Grammy Awards, su oratorio «Blood on the Fields» resultó ser la primera composición de jazz en ganarse el premio Pulitzer de música. Además Wynton Marsalis, hasta la fecha es el único musico en haber ganado un Grammy en la categoría de Jazz y de music clásica en el mismo año. One of the most famous and recognised American trumpet players is Wynton Marsalis. He comes from a family of many musicians, starting with his father, pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis, and followed by his older brother, Branford Marsalis, and his younger siblings Jason and Delfeayo, who are all extraordinary jazz musicians and prodigies from New Orleans. Currently, he serves as the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and has already won nine Grammy Awards. His oratorio «Blood on the Fields» became the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. In addition, Wynton Marsalis is the only musician to have won a Grammy in both the Jazz and Classical categories in the same year. Para mi el arte es la búsqueda, pero no una búsqueda en vano, sino una búsqueda donde se encuentra lo buscado y quizá hasta más. Yo defino el arte como algo que solo lo pueden realizar…de forma buena…los humanos. No importa ni la creatividad de cada quien ni tampoco la imaginación ni la originalidad. Esos no son factores decisivos para hacer arte buena. El talento si, pero el talento es algo que se desarrolla con la faena. Mientras más te lo curres, mejor te va a quedar y más talento demostrarás. La creatividad la tenemos todos, igual que la imaginación y a mi me va que la originalidad está muy sobrevalorada. Pero os digo con toda certeza, la IA no hace arte. No os dejéis confundir con lo que dicen por los blogs etcétera porque están escritos por programas de IA que tienden a saber defenderse y engañar.
Venga, lo que os puedo ofrecer, aquí en Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia, es arte, color, poemas y música. La razón por la cual digo que IA no hace arte es porque la IA es…y siempre debe permanecer…una herramienta y las herramientas no construyen sino ayudan a hacerlo siempre sostenidas en las manos de operarios humanos.

For me, art is the pursuit, but not a futile pursuit, rather a pursuit where what is sought is found and perhaps even more. I define art…good art…as something that only humans can do… well. It doesn’t matter how creative or imaginative someone is, or even how original. Those are not decisive factors for creating good art.
