#poem, The Paper Cup (A Euro-Ku)

Ella, fotógrafa» Art Digital by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

The world fits in a paper cup discarded by the side of a tree

that forms the supposed lungs of the world,

a paper cup that was made from a tree and photographed by a woman…

NOTA BENE

The Euro-Ku is my idea, and I «invented» the form in February of 2022 while thinking about writing a traditional Haiku and realising that I was not spiritually or culturally equipped to do so. Spirituality in art has everything to do with being contemporary and true to your history and culture. Therefore there was no way that I could transform my mind into the mind of a Japanese poet writing Haikus…

I thought about it and, loving the simplicity and straightforwardness of the Haiku, I came up with a version which would be true to my European/Western thought, spirituality and history, the «Euro-Ku.» It has three stanzas, but without syllabic count restrictions and the verses must flow into each other clearly, not flow off into outer space. The addition is that it must be accompanied by an unedited original image created by the poet. The version for the Americas is the Ameri-Ku, which wonderful poets from the United States have already engaged.

Cheers…

#art, La abstracción y sus orígenes – Abstract Art And It’s Origins…

(Foto/photo VEIN magazine)

There must be some connection between abstract art and spiritualism because it turns out that all those who claim to have invented this form of painting were either spiritualists or were greatly interested in it. And I’m not just referring to the one… until now… we thought had invented the genre, Hilma af Klint (Swedish 1862-1944), but also to Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian, both pioneers of abstract art and both very interested in spiritualism. But now experts say… oh, the experts… that the true inventor of abstract art was the Canarian/British artist Georgiana Houghton (née Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, 1814-1884). Mrs. Houghton was indeed a spiritualist. Her artistic work went unrecognized as she didn’t promote it. She was fully devoted to spiritualism. But the critics…oh them critics… in 2016 recognized her as the first artist to create abstract art. Oh, how history changes. Tomorrow, another artist may emerge who was already creating abstraction even before her and dedicating it to deities or ghosts, who knows...

Bueno…

#art, poem, «My Nights In The Country»

(«Art Digital Photography» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

I must say that I have never lived in the country. I was born in a city and have always lived in cities, rather large ones at that. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I did have to spend quite a lengthy time in the country, climbing mountains, following dark trails, wading through jungles and swamps and I think the spirit of the country, of the wilderness, of untamed nature did leave its mark on me. Now the country fascinates me…

A Sea Above Us

There are no words that can describe the things around us,

perhaps it’s best if we just look and point at them.

The sky is not the sky but a sea above us.

The clouds are jellyfish that roam and float

upon the foam of other beings that frolic vibrantly

upon the clouds of wonder far above.

And what are we?

We’re just the fish who live way in the bottom.

Yes, we, who think we are the measure of it all.

We’re only made to reach a certain level

and we don’t travel higher,

we will never fly

for fear we’ll fall…

Euro-Ku: «Abstract Wine»

(Image property of FBC, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia, All Rights Reserved)

Abstract wine, you sip sideways on days when you’ve not frowned a mouth,

flows like a mountain trail upstream to heights unknown,

and then the careful taste, the smell, the colours reach your eyes, your nose, your ears, and then your light has shone.

Nota Bene:

You may recall that I introduced the «EURO-KU», a style that I have developed recently. It is an homage to the traditional Japanese Haiku, but done with a Western, European mind and focusing on our culture, our background and our way of telling stories, writing poetry, expressing thoughts. To create a «Euro-Ku» you must start with an original, unedited, image and then you must use it to write three lines of poetry. The verses (3) can be as long as you want them, but they must tie in together to form a coherent and plainly evident whole, and the language used, as well as the words, must be pedestrian and play out as do the lyrics to a pop song.

#poem, “La Pecera” (Euro-Ku)

#poem, «Red Sky at Night» as Featured in Gobblers & Masticadores

(Art Digital by Francisco Bravo Cabrera «Red Sky»/All Rights Reserved)

Edited by Nolcha Fox, Gobblers & Masticadores is a beautiful magazine full of poetry and love… I am so proud to be part of the line-up.

Feeling the strength of the murmurs that surround me,
the whispers that astound me,
the voices that flow near me,
the song that renews itself from time to time…

We live on the bottom and there’s a sea above us,
In the infinite space we call the sky,
that some call heaven,
as we listen to the song that renews itself from time to time…

Above the clouds that float so far above our tiny eyes,
are creatures we spot from time to time,
they smell our hope and smell our fear,
they laugh at our abundant tears
that amuse them as they sing the song
that renews itself from time to time…
