Wars used to be fought by trained, professional soldiers who had sworn allegiance to their country. They were trained to obey, to kill enemy combatants but to not harm innocents, if at all possible. There has always been what euphemistically is called colateral damage, but it had never been intentional.
Wars used to be fought to defend one’s nation, or to free an enslaved one that was a friend and ally. Wars were also fought to gain territories, to spread influence, for money, for mineral or petroleum gains, for gold, for selfishness, for tyrants who wanted world domination. Wars were also fought to liberate those who had fallen victims to such tyrants. A war was also fought to prevent communists from taking over the country…
Now wars are everywhere. They are not fought by soldiers, professionally trained to win. They are fought by terrorists bound on enslaving their enemies. Wars are led by intolerant leaders, blood-thirsty and ambitious who hate and wish to eliminate all those who do not hold the same beliefs as they do. Wars are fought against civilians, against children, against the elderly. And they are fought with rockets, missiles, bombs and biochemical weapons of mass destruction.
War is just a shot away…
(from the Jagger & Richards song «Gimme Shelter» and here is a phenomenal version, hope you like it)
Cheers…
