There is a river walk along the East River in Manhattan that I used to walk every morning starting from 57th Street… The East River is an incredible waterway and I used to get much «inspiration» from its turbid waters and from the different boats I would see speeding by… So I miss that I reckon and every time I go to a city, in Spain or anywhere else in Europe, and a river crosses it, I walk its banks and let the energy of flowing water reach me, inspire me, transform me and entertain me. I learned a long time ago that one must flow and one must let oneself drift because the Universe has a purpose and a living plan and if you align yourself to it you will succeed but if you try to swim against the current you will eventually tire out and drown. I know because I swam against the current for many years… But once I tuned in to the power of the Universe, in accordance to the will of God, I succeeded where I had previously failed. I am an artist, I live from my art, and I enjoy my work, and I work hard and diligently to not disregard or disrespect my gift. I love to enjoy life, drink wine, play and listen to music, dance the night away and hang out with friends for tapas or pintxos at the incredible terraces and bars so common in all our cities… And you, what do you like?

Hay un paseo a lo largo del East River en Manhattan que solía recorrer cada mañana comenzando desde la Calle 57… El East River es una vía fluvial increíble y solía obtener mucha «inspiración» de sus aguas turbias y de los diferentes barcos que pasaban a toda velocidad… Así que lo echo de menos, y cada vez que voy a una ciudad, en España o en cualquier otro lugar de Europa, y un río la cruza, camino por sus riberas y dejo que la energía del agua en movimiento me alcance, me inspire, me transforme y me entretenga. Aprendí hace mucho tiempo que uno debe fluir y dejarse llevar porque el Universo tiene un propósito y un plan viviente y, si te alineas con él, tendrás éxito, pero si intentas nadar contra la corriente, eventualmente te cansarás y te ahogarás. Sé porque nadé contra la corriente durante muchos años… Pero una vez que sintonice con el poder del Universo, de acuerdo con la voluntad de Dios, tuve éxito donde antes había fracasado. Soy artista, vivo de mi arte, disfruto y sigo trabajando, y me lo curro bien para no menospreciar ni despreciar mi don. Me encanta disfrutar de la vida, beber vino, escuchar y tocar música, bailar y salir con mis amigos a por tapas o pintxos en los bares y las terrazas que abundan en nuestras ciudades. Y a ti ¿Qué te provoca?

LIGHT

God said “Let there be light” on the first day of creation before He created the sun, moon and the stars. God called the light “day” to separate it from the darkness, “night.”

And light became the most useful gift to humanity for not only did it provide the ability to see, warmth and photosynthesis for the growth of plants, it allowed humans to create. And since mankind was not meant to eat only plants, the light of day made it possible to hunt animals for food and for skins.

But under the light of day something else began to develop: creativity. And it flourished. The creative process, which incorporates intelligence, experience, practice, training and desire to communicate, exists to expand upon the beauty of the world. Without light humanity would not have been possible.
Ancient civilisations created spectacular works of art under the light of day. Masterful temples that still stand after thousands of years. The pyramids of Egypt, the ancient structures found in Göbekli Tepe in what is now modern-day Türkiye, the monuments and temples of Ancient Greece and Rome, and a million other beautiful examples of man’s creativity. Nothing could have been possible in the dark, but everything is in the light.

In many religious texts from around the world, light is a metaphor for divine presence, for truth, and for knowledge. In the Christian Bible: «God said, ‘Let there be light'» (Genesis 1:3); Jesus’ said: «I am the light of the world» (John 8:12). In the Quran: «Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth» (Surah Al-Nur 94:35). In Judaism, the Torah is described as a lamp, and light is representative of the soul and divine commandments, as we can read in Proverbs 6:23: «For a commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is a light». And light symbolizes mitzvot (commandments) and the human soul, as performing a mitzvah is considered like lighting an internal candle. In Hinduism light is a metaphor that symbolises enlightenment, knowledge (Jnana), and spiritual practice.

So… light… Our great gift and blessing… So important that it was first and foremost in the mind of God and his first command before Creation.

As an artist I appreciate light over all the other conditions, abilities, technology or training…

Dios dijo “Hágase la luz” en el primer día, antes de crear el sol, la luna y las estrellas. Dios llamó a la luz “día” para separarlo de la oscuridad, la cual llamó “noche.”

Y la luz se convirtió en el regalo más útil para la humanidad, ya que no solo proporcionó la capacidad de ver, calor y fotosíntesis para el crecimiento de las plantas, sino que también permitió a los humanos crear. Y dado que la humanidad no estaba destinada a alimentarse solo de plantas, la luz del día hizo posible cazar animales para obtener alimentos y pieles.

A la luz del día comenzó a desarrollarse la creatividad. Y floreció. El proceso creativo, que incorpora inteligencia, experiencia, práctica, entrenamiento y el deseo de comunicar, existe para expandir la belleza del mundo. Sin luz, la humanidad no habría sido posible.

Las civilizaciones antiguas crearon impresionantes obras de arte bajo la luz del día. Templos magistrales que todavía se mantienen en pie después de miles de años. Las pirámides de Egipto, las antiguas estructuras encontradas en Göbekli Tepe en lo que ahora es la moderna Türkiye, los monumentos y templos de la Antigua Grecia y Roma, y un millón de otros hermosos ejemplos de la creatividad del hombre. Nada podría haber sido posible en la oscuridad, pero todo es posible en la luz.

En muchos textos religiosos de todo el mundo, la luz es una metáfora de la presencia divina, de la verdad y del conocimiento. En la Biblia cristiana: «Dijo Dios: ‘Sea la luz'» (Génesis 1:3); Jesús dijo: «Yo soy la luz del mundo» (Juan 8:12). En el Corán: «Allah es la luz de los cielos y de la tierra» (Surah Al-Nur 94:35). En el judaísmo, la Torá se describe como una lámpara, y la luz es representativa del alma y de los mandamientos divinos, como podemos leer en Proverbios 6:23: «Porque el mandamiento es una lámpara, y la enseñanza es una luz». Y la luz simboliza los mitzvot (mandamientos) y el alma humana, ya que realizar un mitzvá se considera como encender una vela interna. En el hinduismo, la luz es una metáfora que simboliza la iluminación, el conocimiento (Jnana) y la práctica espiritual.

Así que… la luz… Nuestro gran regalo y nuestra gran bendición porque nos es tan útil… Tan importante que fue lo primero, y lo más presente en la mente de Dios pues fue su primer mandato antes de la mandar a formar toda la Creación.

Como artista, aprecio la luz sobre todas las otras condiciones, habilidades, tecnología o formación…
