MAKING HISTORY

written by: Francisco Bravo Cabrera

The city is a fishbowl…
And we swim through streets
of dirty water that flows through bars, churches and schools.
They whet my appetite…
They wet my shoes and rip open the skin that covers my body,
remove my lungs and,
put in their place gills so oxygen can flow…

#art, #poem, “The Dancer”

(Photo by GAB/Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia/All Rights Reserved)

The circus has left us in Brooklyn with faded white t-shirts

and wrinkled grey shorts.

The charlatans have fled the city,

and the tigers have devoured the goats,

while the banners still hang from one side of the street to the other,

rotting in the wind,

the dancer

dances to the wild guitar and to the girl who sings.

+++

To dance is to dream with feet gracefully gliding through floors,

and a body that twirls in the light.

Guitars fracture the tavern’s rustic air

and notes fly deep into the night,

while rhythmic patterns tattoo walls with the ink of shadows,

travelling through the years,

while the dancer

sweats a million tears.

+++

We live in times when hopes and aspirations travel up and down,

as if riding a lift, and memories sail to rocky shores.

I’ll light another candle to the saint that weeps

and pray that he my soul restore.

It’s then I start to dance,

to dream with rhythmic feet upon medieval floors of wood,

while in the corner smiling,

stands the dancer,

clapping hands to keep the rhythm,

tears of sweat and sweat of tears now dry,

and dreaming of the girl that sings and of the wild guitar.

He guides me through a step or two

then vanishes within the halo of a star.

#art, Haciendo arte en València – Making Art in Valencia

(Francisco Bravo Cabrera/Representado por un actor/Actor portrayal)

El arte no se detiene, no tiene mas que un principio y luego una continuidad. No os vayas a confundiros y pensar que el arte evoluciona. El arte no evoluciona. El arte es.

Art does not stop. Art only has a beginning then a straight line of progression, a sense of continuity. Don’t confuse yourselves thinking that art evolves. Art does not evolve. Art is.

#art, El jazz es salvaje y fenomenal! – Jazz is Wild and Phenomenal!

+++

Jazz, and it must be written with a capital letter, is something wild, phenomenal, incredible. It is the American classical music invented and developed by its enthusiasts, by its followers, by those who love music, improvisation, and rhythm… That’s why I paint it and live it…»

#opinion, “Who Needs Universities!”

(“Have a Gin-Tonic” by FBC/All Rights Reserved)

Universities have gone from being centres of higher education to indoctrination centres. Who needs them? There are so many famous artists (in all disciplines) who never attended uni and became extremely successful and rich.

Think of Lennon and McCartney (and George and Ringo), Elvis, Cat Stevens, Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Keith Haring, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, and on and on and on…

You go to art school at uni and the professors try to influence you and “guide” you to what they like, what they consider art, which is mostly “performance/conceptual art,” understand it as “theatrical” that belongs in Theatre School and not Art School…

You go to Theatre School and they only guide you, again, towards the style/form that the profesor likes! Good grief!

What ever happened to teaching and letting the student learn on his own and choose?

Besides, a good reason to avoid most unis is that they are mostly staffed with communists…
