Si, la trompeta anuncia una nueva sección de nuestro blog/revista de arte VALENCIARTIST. Vamos a presentaros a los poetas, escritores y artistas que hemos conocido a través de nuestros años en WordPress. Comenzamos el lunes 27 de mayo 2024 a las 0600 horas (en Europa occidental).

Si quieres unirte a este grupo, te haremos una breve entrevista y publicaremos una muestra de tu obra y daremos el nombre y el link de tu blog. Avísanos con tu correo electrónico y te mandaremos la información completa.

Yes, the trumpet announces a new section of our art blog/magazine VALENCIARTIST. We’re going to introduce you to the poets, writers, and artists we’ve met through our years on WordPress. We start on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 0600 hours (Western Europe time zone).

If you want to join this group, we will conduct a brief interview with you and publish a sample of your work, as well as provide the name and link to your blog. Send us your email and we will reply with the complete information.

We will start the series with the writers (and poets) and later every one else…

DECLARATION No. 1

To all of those that we scare half to death,

that want to censure, control us,

smother us with wealth,

that feel offended at the words we choose to write,

that will never understand the need we have to fight,

We say hold on, there’s more…

To you that never sees the sun the way I see it seize the night,

and surround me with its light as it circles Mother Earth,

initiating rebirth, granting me the light

I need as well, require,

as I take my thoughts

higher

and

higher,

I say you should retire…

To all of you we infest like the plague,

insecure,

insincere,

too loud and too vague,

I say hold on tight for this ride’s just begun,

the words will keep coming,

there’s no way to stop them,

the more you scream halt

the more we will not,

the more you resist us,

the louder we’ll discuss,

and the more you will sink in the mud of the forgotten,

for we speak for the downtrodden,

the ones left behind,

in life too unkind…

To all of you that we scare half to death,

one day we will seize your wealth

and share it with the world,

for our words are our stealth,

and they’ve now been impearled.

I am almost positive that you do not know this artist. So I will tell you a bit about her, but I do encourage you to look further on, especially if you are interested in women artists and in abstract art. Suzy Frelinghuysen was an artist and an opera singer born in Newark, New Jersey (US) in 1911.

Suzy’s father was the president of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. of New Jersey. Her grandfather, Frederick T. Frelinghuysen was Secretary of State under US President Chester A. Arthur), and her great-great-uncle, Theodore Frelinghuysen had been a senator from New Jersey.

Although Suzy studied voice, she always displayed an interest in painting. Her training in art was mainly through tutors in New Jersey and in her many and frequent trips to Europe. Then in 1935 she got married to North American artist, and advocate for American abstract art, George L.K. Morris. He was a great influence upon her career as an artist. Their home, and studios, in Lenox, Massachusetts has been converted into a museum.

Morris introduced her to the work of European artists like Picasso, Léger, Braque, and Juan Gris. This led her to the search which yielded work that leaned towards an abstract Cubist manner. She joined the American Abstract Artists (AAA/1937). Then in 1938 Suzy became the first woman to have a painting placed in the permanent collection of A.E. Gallatin’s Museum of Living Art. She also took part at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, in Paris, and exhibited also in Rome and Amsterdam. And in 1943, her artwork was included in Peggy Guggenheim’s show Exhibition by 31 Women at the Art of This Century gallery in New York.

From 1947 to 1950 Suzy sang at the New York City Opera and the New Orleans Opera. Bronchitis made her stop and in 1951 she returned to being a full-time painter.

Frelinghuysen died of a stroke at the age of 76 in Massachusetts. Her paintings hang at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Carnegie Art Institute, as well as in her home and studio museum in Lenox, Massachusetts.

En la lengua valenciana, el nombre de nuestra ciudad es València, y es su nombre oficial. Somos un municipio​, una ciudad y capital de la provincia, la Comunitat Valenciana. Tenemos más de un millón de habitantes y eso nos coloca como la tercera ciudad más poblada de España, detrás solo de Barcelona y Madrid. Nuestra València fue fundada por los romanos en 138 a.C. con el nombre de Valentia Edetanorum.

In the Valencian language, the name of our city is València, and it is its official name. We are a municipality, a city, and the capital of the province, the Valencian Community. We have over a million inhabitants, which places us as the third most populous city in Spain, behind only Barcelona and Madrid. Our València was founded by the Romans in 138 BC with the name of Valentia Edetanorum.

Georges Croegaert nació en Amberes, Bélgica en 1848 y fue un pintor academista que pinto escenas y retratos de gente elegante, fina y de la alta sociedad… Cursó estudios de arte en la Real Academia de Bellas Artes (Amberes) y luego, en 1876 se mudó a París donde vivió hasta su muerte en 1923. Sus telas son autenticas escenas del estilo Belle Époque, y además se le reconoce como uno de los principales exponentes de la pintura anticlerical. Expuso en el Salón de París (1882-1914) y también en el extranjero.

Georges Croegaert was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1848. He was an academic painter who depicted scenes and portraits of elegant, refined people from high society. He studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp) and then, in 1876, moved to Paris where he lived until his death in 1923. His canvases are authentic scenes of the Belle Époque style. However, he is also recognized as one of the main exponents of anticlerical painting. He exhibited at the Paris Salon (1882-1914) and also abroad.

GRACIAS – CHEERS

A las diez y media voy al bar de la esquina,
donde la dueña me conoce y estima,
me pone en la mesa el almuerzo:
Pimentones, olivas,
all i pebre, pa amb tomàquet,
y dos cocas divinas…
¡Venga! Esmorzar es un lujo, todos lo dirían,
y me siento feliz disfrutándolo todo
con una cerveza bien fría.

Como era verano me senté en la terraza,
pues el sol de Valencia sí arrasa,
y lo vi en la otra mesa, periódico en mano,
y delante de un vaso de agua.
Lo miré y sonreí y le dije al anciano,
“Lo invito a un café valenciano,
a un cortado del tiempo o a un tallat
si desea, o a un bombón,
pida lo que usted quiera,
también a un croissant
o pan con mantequilla,
o un pinchito e tortilla.”

Pasaron las horas y tres carajillos,
hablando de tiempos pasados,
de mujeres que tanto quisimos,
de las otras que no nos amaron,
del deporte, política, religión y la mítica luz de la luna,
la luna de Valencia,
si, por favor,
como ella ninguna.
Nos cagamos en diez,
aplaudimos a dos,
hasta que ya al fin la dueña nos dijo,
“Mirad el reloj que la hora ha llegao de cerrar,
a otra parte salaos, a otro bar a charlar.”

Nos despedimos al son de las tres de la tarde,
y al anciano jamás volví a ver,
hasta que un día yo almorzando
y leyendo el periódico en sus páginas su foto encontré.
Había muerto el anciano,
y era millonario y para mí menuda sorpresa,
pues dejó por escrito que a mí me dejaba
su fortuna, su casa, y su herencia.

La moraleja aquí es esta:
Esmorzar es un lujo,
y ocasión para compartir,
tu pan con tomate,
tu pincho e tortilla,
y tus cocas,
con quien no las pueda comprar,
pues que sabes tu
si el que tienes delante
es mendigo ambulante o un anciano buscando
una miga e cariño,
una sonrisa gentil,
conversar un poquito,
hablar de vivir…

Así que si ves a uno cerca,
convídalo a un rato,
y pide que pongan, bien frías y en la mesa,
olivas, cortezas y
un par de cervezas.

NOTA BENE

L’esmorzar es el almuerzo en valenciano y se come usualmente entre las 1030 horas y las 1200. El all i pebre es ajo y pimienta, una salza muy popular, el pa amb tomàquet es nuestro tradicional pan con tomate con el cual suelen desayunar miles de valencianos todos los días. Las cocas son panes planos y redondos cubiertos con ingredientes frescos, como un pizza, digamos. El tallat es nuestro café cortado.

Saludos a todos vosotros, compañeros poetas, escritores, artistas, pensadores etcétera etcétera. Hoy damos debut y bienvenida a una interesantísima serie aquí en VALENCIARTIST titulada «Poetas & Escritores», pero en ella caben artistas de todos los géneros.

Día tras día vais a disfrutar del arte de algunos de nuestros favoritos escritores, poetas y artistas de las redes y de la vida fuera de ellas también. Sin censura ni cambios, publicaremos, en sus propias palabras, lo que sienten, porque escriben, y como guían y enfocan su arte y su carrera. Tambien vais a leer muestras de su obra literaria o artística y llegareis a conocerlos mejor. Hay que destacar aquellos que se adentran y buscan adelantar la cultura, sabiendo y reconociendo que la cultura es universal y no tiene fronteras.

Ya tenemos una lista de poetas y escritores interesados que van a participar, pero si tú, si, tú que me estas leyendo, quieres participar también, venga, hazlo que es muy simple. Contesta, a través de este post, y déjame tu correo electrónico. En cortos días te mandaremos un email con toda la información para que puedas participar.

Greetings to all of you, fellow poets, writers, artists, thinkers, and so on and so forth. Today we debut and welcome an incredibly interesting series here on VALENCIARTIST!

Day after day, you will enjoy the art of some of my favourite writers, poets, and artists from the networks and life outside of them as well. Without censorship or changes, we will publish, in their own words, what they feel, why they write, and how they guide and focus their art and career. You will also read/see samples of their literary or artistic work and get to know them better. It is important to highlight those who delve into and seek to advance culture, knowing and recognizing that culture is universal and knows no boundaries.

We already have a list of interested poets and writers who are going to participate. But if you, yes, you reading this, also want to participate, come on, do it because it’s very simple. Reply to this post and leave us your email address. In a few days, we will send you an email with all the information so you too can participate.

El arte de esta donostiarra es el performance… Tiene 86 años y en 2014 recibió el Premio Velázquez de Artes Plásticas, otorgado por el Ministerio de Cultura… Esther estudió arte en París y vive en la capital francesa desde 1973. Previamente había estudiado periodismo en España… A principios de la década de los 60 se unió con el pintor José Antonio Sistiaga para formar el Taller de Libre Expresión, en 1967 se unió al grupo ZAJ (grupo musical de vanguardia creado por Juan Hidalgo en España) que había sido creado en 1966… Ferrer trabaja su arte con objetos, fotografías y sistemas basados en números primos y claro, sus performances… Aunque no soy fan de las performances ni de las instalaciones, Esther Ferrer es una artista que recoge la historia de arte en nuestro país (España) y la incluyo porque también es mujer y por eso no se le ha dado, quizá, su merecido reconocimiento. En fin, si a uno le interesa la historia del arte hay que estudiarlos y conocerlos a todos, buenos y malos, fenomenales o mediocres, estemos de acuerdo o no…
