Alma Buscher was a German designer who studied and trained at the Bauhaus… She was born in Kreutzal, Germany in 1899… In 1922 she began her studies at the Bauhaus of Weimar taking Johannes Itten’s preliminary class and later classes offered by Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. She was accepted to the textile workshop directed by Georg Muche, but later, in 1923 she changed to wood sculpture under the direction of Josef Hartwig. That same year she exhibited her furniture designs at the first Bauhaus exhibition. Her items were children’s furniture, theatrical puppets and marionettes and other toys.
Alma Buscher died died during a bombing raid (WWII) in Buchschlag, close to Frankfurt on the 25th of September of 1944. Short life, not enough work done but I think she showed a tremendous potential and who knows how far she could have reached had she survived the Second World War.

De peque me acuerdo que mi abuela me decía que para ser cantante, actor, artista o bailarín habia que nacer con ese don, o sea, el talento para lograrlo. Bueno, pasaron los años y yo creyéndome eso hasta que decidí entrar en la facultad de bellas artes y me di cuenta que todos nacemos con la posibilidad de lograr cualquier cosa, lo que nos hacen falta son las ganas. El talento se desarrolla, si uno lo quiere y lo busca. Si quieres ser artista cúrratelo y lo lograrás. Eso nunca falla. Mientras más practiques, ensayes, trates y te esfuerces más talento desarrollas. El artista tiene que vindicarse con cada cuadro que haga, igual el cantante, el bailarín, el músico y el actor. El talento no se acumula, ni se tiene ahí de reserva. El talento hay que ejercitarlo continuamente, como el cuerpo con el ejercicio físico. Así que no penséis que hay que «tener» talento, hay que «desarrollar» talento. Claro, si lo queréis pues no todos nacemos para lo mismo. Y no vayáis a pensar que estas son chorradas, si no me lo crees ponme a la prueba y lo veréis. 😊

When I was little, I remember my grandmother telling me that to be a singer, actor, artist, or dancer, you had to be born with that gift, or rather, the talent to achieve it. Well, years went by, and I believed that until I decided to enter the School of Fine Arts and realized that we all are born with the ability to achieve anything; what we lack are the drive and determination. Talent can be developed if one wants it and seeks it. If you want to be an artist, pursue it, and you will succeed. This never fails. The more you practice, rehearse, try, and strive, the more talent you develop. An artist must redeem themselves with every piece they create, just like a singer, dancer, musician, and actor do. Talent is not something that accumulates or is kept in reserve. Talent needs to be exercised constantly, just like the body with physical exercise. So don’t think that you have to “have” talent; you need to “develop” talent. Of course, if you want it, not everyone is born for the same things. And don’t think these are just nonsense; if you don’t believe me, put me to the test, and you’ll see. 😊
Un pintor impresionista noruego nacido en Christiania, la actual ciudad de Oslo, en 1847 que le encantaba pintar paisajes… Empecemos por el hecho de que a este pintor no lo mencionaron para nada en la facultad, al menos no en m mí época… Pero me parece interesante y que contribuyó a la historia del arte y que se debe saber de el, al menos entretenernos con sus cuadros… Y si tú no sabias nada de Frits, pues yo te voy a decir algunas cosillas… Primero, no era autodidacta, estudió en la Academia de Arte en Copenhague del 1870 al 1872. Además, del 1873 al 1875 estudio bajo el pintor Hans Gude, uno de los más famosos de su país, en la Escuela de Arte Baden en Karlsruhe. Vivió un tiempo en el cabo de Skagen (Dinamarca) en 1879, pero en 1880 regresó a Noruega para convertirse en uno de los jóvenes pintores más destacados de su país… En 1892 se mudo a Francia y allí murió en 1906. Es un pintor de gran merito, nombrado comendador de la Orden de San Olaf (1905)… Si te provoca ver sus obras, pues hay 37 de ellas en La Galería Nacional de Noruega.

Frits Thaulow was an impressionist painter from Norway, born in Christiania, now the city of Oslo, in 1847, and loved to paint landscapes… Let’s start with the fact that this painter was not mentioned at all at uni, at least not in my time… However, I find him interesting and I recognise the fact that he contributed to the history of art. We should know about him, at least so that we can delight with his paintings… And if you didn’t know anything about Frits, well, I’m going to tell you a few things… First, he was not self-taught; he studied at the Art Academy in Copenhagen from 1870 to 1872. Additionally, from 1873 to 1875, he studied under the painter Hans Gude, one of the most famous in his country, at the Baden Art School in Karlsruhe. He lived for a time at Skagen (Denmark) in 1879, but in 1880 he returned to Norway to become one of the most prominent young painters in his country… In 1892 he moved to France and died there in 1906. He is a painter of great merit, appointed commander of the Order of St. Olaf (1905)… If you feel like seeing his works, there are 37 of them in the National Gallery of Norway.

El arte de los locos, bueno, no me refiero a personas que quizá sufran de algunos trastornos mentales, estos son los locos internados, muchos de ellos criminales, pero cuando se ponen a pintar or a dibujar, Buah! Fenómenos! De sus dibujos y pinturas se nutrieron los surrealistas y luego muchos más. Os urjo a que miréis el vídeo, especialmente si sois artista, estudiante de arte o de la historia del arte o simplemente amante de la cultura y el arte.

The art of the insane, and I do not mean people who have some form of mild mental illness, I am talking about the criminal insane and the ones that are confined to institutions, when they begin to paint or draw, wow! Phenomenal work! The surrealists fed from their drawings and paintings and later so have many other artists. I strongly encourage you to watch the video, especially if you are an artist, art student or art historian, or simply you love art…

Omnia Caelum Studios…
The name comes from Metamorphoseis, («The Metamorphoses») a poem written by the Roman poet Ovid on 8 AD, which narrates the creation of the world and it’s history until the day of the deification of Julius Caesar…
The translation of Omnia Caelum into English is hard to achieve, but the best I can do is to think that it may mean: «all is heaven»…
First came Omnia Caelum Miami. I started this business in the year 2003 with my first professional exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey. I never thought it would be there, but it was, that’s destiny I guess. From there I proceded to New York, to Zaragoza, Spain, to Miami, and to other cities in the State of Florida. I took my work to all galleries, to all fairs, festivals and to special expos. But my greatest accomplishment…I would say…was that I was able to reach fabulous individual collectors that opted for my work, and they are from three continents: Europe, Asia and America.
Upon my return to Spain I re-named the studios Omnia Caelum Studios València, as València, Spain, is my city. From here I have exhibited in Barcelona, Sevilla and in Izmir, Turkey, as well as participating in many trans-European art auctions and I have seen my art travel to many countries in the continent. And this is just the beginning. There are many countries in my plans, many places to visit, many places to take my work to…
Like I have said many times before, I am a painter, not an artist. I really don’t know what they mean when they say «artist». I am a searcher and searching is the greatest form of art, as far as I know. I don’t believe in a lot of things that I hear are important to so-called «artists», like originality and style. No artist is original. We cannot be original. Perhaps our ancestors were original but even then, I am sure they copied nature. And as far as style is concerned, it is a limiting factor. To develop a style all you have to do is to do the same thing over and over again. Like Picasso said, God created a giraffe and an ant, totally different, where was His style? And for me, God is the only creator…

Well…an artist creates a painting, a sculpture; a composer a song or a symphony, and perhaps many tunes in between; a choreographer creates a ballet, a modern or jazz dance. But I am a painter. Although I did create…back in 1997…my «greatest» work, I call him «Bodo Vespaciano». I was Bodo for many years, well, until 2019 when I returned to Spain and settled down and became Francisco Bravo Cabrera (we use two last names in Spain).
So if you see my work signed as Bodo Vespaciano (or Bodo V), it is still me as I am still Bodo to many people in other countries. And I kind of like Bodo so I do not want to get rid of him so quickly.
I just want to mention that I write, compose and paint, but I do it as the practitioner of a craft…an art-form to many…and not as something intuitive. I have studied and researched my craft too much to allow for something to surge spontaneously out of «inspiration». I am a craftsman so I plan everything, sketch out everything, research colours, tones, hues et cetera and plan…very well…my compositions. And as an artist, I use emotions as a tool. Raw emotion is not art.

Welcome to JaZzArt en València. This blog will post daily articles on art (especially the paintings I make), on artists, music…and musicians…and the poetry that I write. I will also post here many of the videos that I make for YouTube that comprise my Art History series.
What is «Jazz-Art»? It is the approach to painting that I have been developing for more than twenty years. I believe that painting is the art of the search, and the search is eternal. A painting begins in the head then begins to travel down the arms to the fingers that hold the brush and apply colours, lines and ideas on a surface. After the thought of the painting comes the actual work of putting it on a canvas, or other surface. To do this I allow room for much improvisation…as would a jazz musician after studying the charts of the song…and in so doing I let the painting…sort of…paint itself, of course with rhythm, which is as essential to jazz as is improvisation.
All of this is contrived, well thought out, well researched and investigated. Art is not intuitive. A painter need not be original. I believe, as many artists throughout art history have stated, that we are all copyists and the original ones copied from nature. I do not consider myself an «artist», I am a painter, a searcher, and a lover of faith and nature.
