#music, Great American Bands, ch. 15: Aerosmith

Definitely a kick-arse band for sure. Always loved these lads and during the nineties they really took on a certain power. Now I hear they are retiring… They were formed in 1970 in Boston. They were Steven Tyler, vocals, Joe Perry on the guitar, Tom Hamilton on the bass, Joey Kramer on drums and Brad Whitford also on guitars. Their album Get a Grip from 1993 is one of my favourites from the group. Aerosmith is one of the highest selling bands of all times. They are the US group with the most number of gold and platinum records. They have had 12 number one hits, four Grammy awards, 10 MTV Music Video Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and they rank number 57 on the list of the best 100 artists of all times according to Rolling Stone magazine. So they are retiring now, good job lads and best of luck on your retirement.

Here is one of my faves from Aerosmith, «Cryin’» written by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Taylor Rhodes, from the 1993 album Get a Grip.

Art History: The High Renaissance

We continue…

From the QUATTROCENTO we now enter the CINQUECENTO, or the High Renaissance. Now, remember that we are concentrating totally in Italy. There were other things going on in Europe which we will look at shortly.

Enjoy…

Cheers…

Above,
as if flying over tiny waves
which cause delirium to tiny animals,
to children,
and to men with evil thoughts,
are these wooden ships that wonder,
illuminate,
fly,
and sail to places loud and strong.

The air,
that spreads these tiny particles,
the dreams of those
who through a sea of blue have travelled,
shudders as it reminisces,
smiles a melancholic smile,
and lingering,
shows me all her wonders,
mile after nautical mile…

But in a sea of green
there are things
I have not seen…

Cuando rondan por el lienzo o por la cartulina las líneas, las curvas y los ángulos se juntan para formar las cosas que nos imaginamos. Así es el arte…

When lines, curves and angles roam through canvases or papers they join forces to become the things we imagine. Such is art…

Deacon 11: «Love»

(Photo of an ancient church near Pergamum in modern day Turkiye/Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

And he was saying…

I visited many of the ruins of churches throughout the western coast of what is now modern day Turkiye and I thought of the words of Sant Paul:

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous, it is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury. Love does not rejoice over wrong-doing, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (I Corinthians 13: 4-7).

And I wonder how many of our fellow human beings actually believe it. I know that for some love is simply saying «I love you» and going on with life as usual. For others love is human chemical attraction. And still for others love is having a strong liking towards someone or some thing. But that is not what the Apostle Saint Paul teaches. So I will take each one of his phrases, one at a time…

Love is patient… The first thing he says about love and a most important one. When one loses patience, does one lose love? Not necessarily, but the thought has to do with being patient as a way of life, and a way of treating everyone. Patience means acceptance. Patience means not being judgemental. Patience means caring for the time and for the life of others. And most importantly patience means having the faith to wait for the good things promised unto us.
