Llevo ya varios años publicando mis poemas (en inglés y en español) en la revista Spillwords Press, NY (pincha aquí para leerlas). Ya en 2024 mi poema «A mis naranjas verdes» ganó el premio de mejor poema internacional y ahora mi poema «No te olvides de mi» ha sido nominada como mejor poema internacional del 2025 y te pido tu voto. «No te olvides de mi»

No te olvides de mi,
Ni abras los ojos sin pensar en los míos…

No pases por el trillo junto al rio,
sin darte cuenta que por él van mis recuerdos
flotando en la espuma que vibra sobre el agua verde,
fecunda, fría y profunda.
Es el rio, el que ahora te canta fandanguillos al sentir tus pasos cerca,
y que con ellos te implora,
no te olvides de mi…

No te olvides de mi,
y si miras hacia el cielo escucharas el sonido de mi voz,
flotando entre las nubes,
viajando sobre el viento,
que ahora está aquí y mañana lejos, lejos, tan lejos
que ya no tiene formas de volver.

Como de costumbre, destacando a mujeres artistas que a mi no me presentaron en la facultad y debieron de haberlo hecho. Tantas mujeres artistas que han contribuido, y mucho, a la historia del arte y han sido pintoras importantes y famosas (en ciertos circulos), no pueden quedarse en el olvido.

Hoy os hablo de Gabriele Münter, la que fue, entre unas pocas féminas, importante en el desarrollo del expresionismo alemán. Pero quizá la quieran meter en la historia solo por haber sido la amante de Wassily Kandinsky. Participó en muchos de los movimientos artísticos de Munich y también en el grupo Der Blaue Reiter (El jinete azul).

Gabriele nació en Berlin en 1877 y a los 20 años comenzó a dar clases de arte en Dusseldorf. Se trasladó a Munich en 1901 y cuando intentó ingresar en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Múnich se encontró con la realidad de que no admitían mujeres. Pero entonces, aburrida de las escuelitas para mujeres, buscó su camino, y su futuro, en el grupo y escuela de Kandinsky, Phalanx.

Münter creo su propio lenguaje en el arte. No unía los colores, si no que los iba separando con…el poder de…la linea negra. Fue miembro fundadora de la Neue Künstlervereinigung München (La Nueva Unión de Artistas de Múnich), grupo que había iniciado Kandinsky y que incluía a los mas importantes artistas del Der Blaue Reiter.

Como siempre os digo, hay mas, mucho, mucho mas, así que tenéis tela marinera. Gabriele Münter murió en 1962.

As usual, I am highlighting women artists who were not introduced to me at university and should have been. So many women artists who have contributed significantly to art history and have been important and famous painters (in certain circles) cannot be forgotten.

Today I’m talking about Gabriele Münter, who was, among a few other women, important in the development of German expressionism. But maybe some want to put her in history just for having been the lover of Wassily Kandinsky. She participated in many of the artistic movements in Munich and also in the Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group.

«Münter created her own language in art and an interesting style. She didn’t blend the colours, but rather separated them with…the power of…the black line. She was a founding member of the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (The New Association of Artists in Munich), a group that had been initiated by Kandinsky and included the most important artists of the Der Blaue Reiter.«

Like I always say, there is more, much, much more, so I leave you to your research! Gabriele Münter died in 1962.

Fue la mujer de Jackson Pollock, y como los dos hacían «abstract-expressionism», o sea, expresionismo abstracto, el inicialmente le robo la fama. Pero sus pinturas, a mi juicio, son superiores a las de Pollock. Creo que Krasner era, y es, mucho más artista que Jackson Pollock y que él se benefició grandemente teniéndola de compañera, pues pudo así nutrirse bien de su obra… Krasner nació en Brooklyn (NY) en 1908… En 1937 comenzó a estudiar en el estudio del pintor alemán Hans Hofmann, y fue este el que le presentó el cubismo en la obra de Picasso, además el fauvismo de Matisse y las obras de otros pintores, los que hacían la abstracción europea… Krasner comenzó a exponer en 1940, estableciendo el expresionismo abstracto en EEUU y en 1945 se casó con Jackson Pollock, en esos momentos líder de los expresionistas abstractos de EEUU… Lee Krasner murió en Nueva York en 1984. Ahora dime lo que piensas de esta gran pintora…

She was the wife of Jackson Pollock, and as both practiced abstract expressionism, he initially stole the spotlight from her. However, in my opinion, her paintings are superior to Pollock’s. I believe Krasner was, and is, a much greater artist than Jackson Pollock, and he greatly benefited from having her as a partner, as he was able to draw inspiration from her work… Krasner was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1908… In 1937, she began studying in the studio of the German painter Hans Hofmann, who introduced her to cubism in Picasso’s work, as well as the fauvism of Matisse and the works of other painters who were creating European abstraction… Krasner started exhibiting in 1940, establishing abstract expressionism in the U.S., and in 1945 she married Jackson Pollock, who was at that time the leader of abstract expressionists in the U.S…. Lee Krasner passed away in New York in 1984. Now tell me what you think of this great painter…

Sin dudas, la verdad…

This magnificent complex, housing a royal palace, a monastery, a library, a school and as well a royal pantheon was the largest building in the world when it was built by the most powerful monarch in the world at the time, King Phillip II of Spain. El Escorial was built in 1561 in the town of San Lorenzo del Escorial in what is now the Comunidad de Madrid.

I visited the complex of buildings earlier this January (2025) and was truly amazed. I wanted to share some of the photographs…

He spoke about spirituality in many ways…

There are many forms of spirituality and all lead to the enrichment of the body, the soul and the spirit. Spirituality may not be the path to salvation but it is the path to a richer life (not meaning money, although it could happen)…

Duty is essential. Many, in this day and age, think only of «rights» and little of «duties», but duties are just as important. If one neglects one’s duties it means that someone else will have to carry the burden, your burden. And rights without duties leads to laziness, inaction and conflicts. A human being needs to be balanced to be whole, therefore we all need to attend, diligently, to our duties.

The Bhagavad Gita states: «You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.«

And this means that we have a right to do our duty, we must, but we should not be overly concerned with the results. Results are not dependent on our efforts only for there are other factors to consider. One is the will of God, the efforts of others, and even luck, the right time and place. So we should not suffer anxiety over the results. The results should not concern us. Our focus should be entirely on our efforts and we will find that the results will be to our liking.

In the same way, Jesus taught his disciples that duty is being like a servant that takes pride in everything he does and doing it fully, to the best of his abilities. Luke 17:10 says, “In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we’ve only done our duty.

So, doing our duty, committing ourselves to action (the action required to perform our dutiful tasks) is enough to fill the day. Jesus also reminded us that tomorrow has problems of its own. So live for today…

We should maintain our spirituality knowing that rights are earned but duties must be performed. Anxiety over results is fruitless and negative. Acceptance of the work of the day is a blessing. Tomorrow, if God grants us a tomorrow, will be another day to work, pray and live.

Proverbs (27:1): Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Ok my friends, so I have reached Great American Band 19 (you will see Ch. 19 tomorrow) and now I would like to finish this Top 20 with your help.

Remember it must be an American band (and in this case I am only referring to the United States, not to the whole continent).
