DEACON 11: «A Good Soldier…»

(«Soldier» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

A good soldier is not an angry man…

It has been said in many ways and attributed to Lao Tzu, author of the Tao Te King (El Dàodé jīng/Chinese: 道德經) and one of the quotes that has always supported my energy, my stamina and drive, and as well peace…

He spoke calmly but powerfully…

Anger clouds the judgement, hardens the heart, dulls the senses, makes one vulnerable, weakens one’s resolve to actually win and ultimately wears down our body. Anger lowers our body’s resistance and negatively influences our immune system. A man who is perpetually angry with the world is a man who does not admire the world around him. He does not show gratitude for the gift of life. And having a «bad temper» is a sign of weakness and of fear, because creating an aura of ill temper this man keeps people away, causing momentary relief but reflecting a personality that suffers from anxiety disorders.

That is why, even in the most violent of professions, that of the soldier, a man has to maintain a sense of calm, of conviction and of duty. A soldier does not go to war because he is angry with the enemy. A soldier goes to war to win the war for his country. A soldier goes to war to fight for his brother standing next to him and to do that he must possess a clear and tranquil mind.

The Holy Bible also addresses anger, and tells us that one should be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. This wise advise was given by Saint James in his epistle (James 1:19). Proverbs (19:11) also tells us that good sense makes one slow to anger. Therefore we should accept the fact that anger is not a positive emotional response and that the impulse to anger should not be filed away so that it can fester inside and cause us debilitating distress, but that it should be channelled towards actions, actions that are neutral, free from anger, free from thoughts of revenge or fear.

A good (fill in the blank) is not an angry man or woman…

#travel, Enjoying the Phenomenal Aegean Sea!

(Image property of Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia/All Rights Reserved)

For those of us who live on the Mediterranean Sea, its waters are a source of delight and mystery. The part known as the Aegean Sea has always been a delight to me and I find sailing its waters to be like travelling through time…

I love these waters so much that I had to share some of my experiences, as they are seen in this video of my travels between the coast of Turkey and the islands of Greece that are so close by…

DEACON 11: Believe…

(The sunsetting on the GULF OF MEXICO as seen from Key West, Florida/photo by Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

And in the background one could hear the sounds of the violins as the orchestra began the passionate largo of the first movement of the Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz…

He paused and listened and the mood seemed to change as the violins now approached the allegretto section of the piece. Here at this junction he began to speak…

Having faith means believing, especially having confidence in what we hope for and knowing, for certain, that there are things, many things, which we do not see. It seems, as Saint Paul wrote to the Hebrews, that the ancients knew more about our earth, our universe and our existence than what we know, or think we know. (Hebrews: 11/Holy Bible)

I really do not care about what the existentialists or the atheists beliefs, or in supposed scientific “proof” or what “experts” say (good grief experts!) about our existence. I know (through my belief and my faith) that the universe was created by God at his command and again as Saint Paul wrote, God made everything in creation from substance that was not, and is not, visible.

But, we all have one thing, that although many despots, dictators, or religious leaders, have tried to take away from us, they cannot, free will. Tyrants may try to restrict us in all manner of ways, but they cannot stop our minds from believing and from the knowledge that the truth has set us free because God, yes God, and atheists can deny it, gave us free will.

We are free to believe in whatever we want. Some can deny the truth. Some can create truths out of lies, and some can say they believe nothing and in nothing. It is all well and good. God lets the rain fall on the good and the bad and lets the sun shine on the righteous and on the evil. God does not interfere.

So, if you want to believe in outer space or that they put a man on the moon, you’ve every right. After all we all have to indulge in some form of fantasy.

#art, Drawings from Bodoland (My head)…

(«Flauta-Man»/graphite on paper/Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

Drawing is something that I love. As an artist some of my greatest moments came while drawing and some of my greatest successes have been with and due to drawings. In all the years that I have been in this profession, the years I spent drawing, and I mean only drawing, were some of my most fructiferous and exiting. I stopped painting in 2008 and took up the pencils and the pens, replaced the canvas for artists paper and began to develop my skills as an illustrator. My peak year was 2017, but by 2016 I had started painting once more… Here are a few of the drawings from that period. They are all from Omnia Caelum Studios Miami and done in my studios overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Miami Beach…

I am happy to say that the majority of the drawings, (all originals, no prints), especially from 2017, now hang in private collections throughout the world.
