#art, Art History in One Minute (videos), part 10: Salvador Dalí…

(«Dalilili»/Francisco Bravo Cabrera/All Rights Reserved)

Welcome to part 10 of «Art History in One Minute (videos)» and on this one we are referring to an artist who, no one said was a genius, so he told everybody that he was… Salvador Dalí, the man who said that he was surrealism, is a great artist to many, not so much to me. Personally, I have read some of his books and I think he was a better writer…

Now I want to know what you think. Genius or bufoon?

JaZzArt!

(C.2021, All Rights Resesrved, «Blue-Eye Jazz» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera, acrylic on canvas, 50x60cm)

Welcome to JaZzArt en València. This blog will post daily articles on art (especially the paintings I make), on artists, music…and musicians…and the poetry that I write. I will also post here many of the videos that I make for YouTube that comprise my Art History series.

What is «Jazz-Art»? It is the approach to painting that I have been developing for more than twenty years. I believe that painting is the art of the search, and the search is eternal. A painting begins in the head then begins to travel down the arms to the fingers that hold the brush and apply colours, lines and ideas on a surface. After the thought of the painting comes the actual work of putting it on a canvas, or other surface. To do this I allow room for much improvisation…as would a jazz musician after studying the charts of the song…and in so doing I let the painting…sort of…paint itself, of course with rhythm, which is as essential to jazz as is improvisation.

All of this is contrived, well thought out, well researched and investigated. Art is not intuitive. A painter need not be original. I believe, as many artists throughout art history have stated, that we are all copyists and the original ones copied from nature. I do not consider myself an «artist», I am a painter, a searcher, and a lover of faith and nature.

Cheers…

#art, Dibujos imaginados – Drawings From the Jazz Band in My Head…

(«JaZzArT» by Francisco Bravo Cabrera, a.k.a. Bodo Vespaciano/All Rights Reserved)

Drawing is a way to create a picture with fewer elements, that is to say, without colours. But blacks and whites are more than enough to convey so much. I never get tired of drawing. There was a time when I drew ten hours a day, every day for several years, and now the collection is scattered throughout Europe and other parts of the world… These drawings are from my time in Miami; I would say I made them between 2015 and 2017…

#art, Some Paintings From Long Ago and Far Away…

(Bodo Vespaciano, a.k.a. Francisco Bravo Cabrera in studio in Miami 2015/Actor portrayal/All Rights Reserved)

Like the song says, «Those were the days my friend…» and they really never end you know, you just pass from one place to another and the days continue. It’s all how you make your days and it starts with your imagination, visualisation and positive outlook. I started out in Miami, Florida in the middle 1990’s and in 2003 I created Omnia Caelum Studios and of course it became Omnia Caelum Studios Miami. These paintings were exhibited and sold back during my first professional gallery show in Istanbul, Türkiye…
