#music, A Song For This Afternoon…

(Photo: MARC SHARRAT/REX Shutterstock/Image source: Rolling Stone Magazine)

Of course you did not notice that these were The Moody Blues. Naturally, they are not as easily recognised as say Pink Floyd, but they should be… And although they are not the first band you think of if someone asks you about bands from the 60’s, they are a powerhouse.

This song, «Tuesday Afternoon» is one of my favourites from these lads. The song is from the 1967 album Days of Future Passed, (the Moodies second album) and released as a single in 1968. It was written by Justin Hayward, the guitarist and frontman of the band.

On the album the song is in two parts, the second half is titled «(Evening) Time to Get Away«, composed by John Lodge. It is about returning home after a day of work. But the first half was included in «The Afternoon» track of the album and titled «Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)«. After all Days of Future Passed was a concept album narrating the events of a day.

In any event, they call the song Baroque pop, psychedelic pop, progressive rock, space rock et cetera. I just call it a fecking good song…
