What is Op Art? 👁️✨

Op Art (short for Optical Art) I reckon you can say that it is one of the vanguard art movements of the XXth Century. The movement that plays tricks on your eyes. Started emerging in the 1950s–60s, using geometric shapes, patterns, and high-contrast colours to create the illusion of movement, vibration, or depth—on a totally flat surface.

Op Art does not express emotions. It focuses on visual perception. Your eyes do the work, and the image seems to shift, pulse, or spin as you look at it.

Artists like Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely (called the father of Op-Art) turned science, math, and design into bold visual experiences that still feel modern today.

Op Art doesn’t move—but it makes you feel like it does.

  3. While these optical illusions hold a certain fascination, I am not sure I have ever considered them art, as such.
